Now, usually I find resolutions to be a dodgy prospect at best. The idea that just because the calendar has turned a page it's time to restructure your life? Come on. But this year is a little different for me. After what has been perhaps the roughest year of our 20+ years as a band, with the loss of a guitar player and then the Mid-Fi Guy, I think some resolutions are in order. So here we go...
I resolve to make this year one of the best in Supersuckers history, starting with the writing of a new batch of ass-kicking songs that will certainly make life a lot better for everyone who hears them. We then resolve to secure a record deal that will enable us to release said juggernaut onto an unsuspecting public in a timely fashion. We don't want to make you wait another 5 years to hear this one. It looks like we've tackled one of our resolutions already - the quest for management looks to be over and we'll have an announcement regarding that development here very soon. So that's looking up.
We resolve to make every Supersuckers fan sing the praises of our new guitar player, Mr. Metal Marty Chandler! We realize that Rontrose has left a big pair of shoes on that side of the stage but we're confident that Mr. Chandler is up for the task of filling them and our new recording will go a long way toward proving that.
And finally, we resolve to continue to rock asses live. In fact, we're thinking of putting the country side of what we do to rest for a little while so we can get back to concentrating on the ROCK. We'd love to hear what you think of that idea so feel free to discuss it on our message board. Yes, we still read it!
So there ya go. As I write this we're getting ready to hit the road again. We're heading to Texas, then over to Louisiana and into the great unknown that is Florida, then it's up the good ol' eastern seaboard, so make sure you check the site for dates and venues and all that good shit.
All right, gotta go. Got some hits to make up. Here's to 2010! It's gotta be a good one...
Wow. Do we have some things to talk about, eh? First I'd like to say "thank you". Thank you for being on this email list, on this message board, or where ever you are, receiving this much overdue, full of "hot topics", nail biter and hopefully not long winded, email to my friends, the fans of the Supersuckers.
So let's just get to it. Chris is out. Sucks. It does, there's no other way to put it. Our friend had to step aside and take care of some personal business, leaving us in the proverbial lurch. I didn't jump on here and announce anything at first because it wasn't really my place and what was I going to say? We're fucked? No, cause we're not but that is how it felt for a minute (I'm lying, a couple weeks actually). That leaves us with some holes in our operation, not pretty ones, ugly ones that you want to cover up and pretend they aren't there but that's for hobby rockers and I have recently (this morning) realized that I am a god damn professional musician not a hobby rocker. So it's time to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and get on with the business of being the greatest rock n' roll band in the world. I mean really, what else are we going to do?
Other news.
I have been receiving a lot of complaints about the P.I.T. members not receiving the DVD that they were promised they would have before stores. First let me say I'm really sorry. We didn't foresee this ball being dropped (well any of them really, truthfully there were a few). I will be personally watching my wife do that this week and if she doesn't get it done, I will fire her too.
So is that it? Are we good? You want more??
Okay, lets talk a little bit about the future. What does the future hold? We are currently speaking with a couple of labels who are interested in putting out a record. So where does Mid-Fi fit into that (you ask yourself)? Basically, it doesn't, ha ha ha... but really, it doesn't. We are putting that guy to bed for a bit. It's nap time for the do-it-yourself crap. We have come to the realization that we not only need but we want some help. We are not calling it a failure, shit we aren't even calling it quits, we just know it's time to give ourselves a break from doing it all on our own. We plan on having a new label in place by the first of the year and announce some recording times and release dates then.
Mid-Fi will always be relevant, you don't do something for 10 years and just put it to bed entirely. It's like splitting up, not getting divorced, we'll try and work it out, see what the future holds. So that's probably more news than you need to know but that's how I'm going to roll. Fuck it, it's (almost) a new year, this is (almost) the new me.
Keep an eye out for the Supersuckers, we're going to be on tour this month. Starting in the lovely Fullerton, CA on December 10 (which will be the 10 year anniversary of the day Jess and I ran off to Vegas and got hitched, no, not by an Elvis impersonator) and we'll make our way through California and into the Southwest and Texas. Look for updated show info on our website soon.
Thanks again for your time, it does not go unnoticed here.
Greetings everyone. Plans change and so it is with a mixture of sadness and joy that I write this message. Right now I am supposed to be in South America, rocking the good people down there but due to some issues with a couple of our guys passports not being ready in time (you'd be amazed at the hoops and hurdles you have to jump through and over to get a visa to go to Brazil), we are still stateside. So that's a bummer. The upshot is that we get to spend Thanksgiving at home with our families, which is a nice silver lining on this otherwise dark cloud, so that's kind of cool. But it leaves us with a little too much down time so what do I do? I fill it! That's right. I have a couple of solo shows lined up right now - one is at the fabulous Alibi room in beautiful San Diego the night before Thanksgiving, Wednesday the 25th of November! It should be a great night, I think I'll be doing a couple of sets so come on out and let me know what you wanna hear, I'll see what I can do for ya... The other show is going to be on December 2nd in my hometown of Seattle at the High Dive in the wonderful Fremont neighborhood for all my Northwest homies. So don't miss that one if'n you're in that neck of the woods. I'm also working on getting another show up in the Northwest sometime soon so keep an eye out on the website for an update regarding that.
And speaking of a change in plans, you may have noticed that these emails are being delivered to you via a new server. In the words of Martha Stewart, it's a good thing. We've partnered up with the good folks at Reverb Nation to help improve our service to you. One of the many good things Reverb Nation can do is help us set up a street team, which is a great way for you to get involved in spreading the word about the Greatest Rock-N-Roll Band In The World. So don't be shy, change can be good! It most certainly is in this instance.
Be sure to check out our new webstore as well, we've parted ways with MusicToday so take advantage of the new low shipping rates and get yourself some classic Supersuckers gear - we just restocked some old favorites in there, so come on and getcha some!
Well, I hope you have a great Thanksgiving and we'll be seeing you in December out there on the road again...
I am here enjoying a very short family downtime, before we head out on the road again. Soaking up the new smiles from Elvis and skateboarding with Quattro. This next tour is keeping me from the family for Thanksgiving, so we are having a little holiday action tomorrow, which I couldn't be more excited about. Then on Friday morning, bright and early, I will be flying to Denver to start this rock n' roll machine all over again.
Our last time in Denver was quite eventful, with one of our guys getting clocked in the skull with a beer bottle. I'm guessing he was talking a little bit of shit to some girl at the bar and she no likey. So that was cool. He's okay and he promises not to get himself in that mess again. Just in case, you should definitely come out to catch that action, you never know what rowdy mayhem will ensue at a Supersuckers show.
Speaking of rowdy mayhem, our DVD is finally here. We recorded our 20th anniversary show last November here in Seattle at the beautiful Showbox and the DVD captures the band in all of it's stinky glory. It's a chronological cruise through all the phases of the Supersuckers history. It's an awesome set from an awesome night.
Another reason to come out and see us live (as if you need one) is the fact that we finally got some of our old catalog integrated back into our set... like the lawn, sometimes it takes a while to get shit done. Have no fear, we are getting shit done.
We are working on songs for our next rock record, I have some ass kickers coming from the quarry and I can't wait to get into the studio, put this shit on tape.
So come on out and be someone, make yourself known and see us off to South America in style, as we cruise down the coast in the big white Econoline.
October 21, 2009 Tour Dates, iTunes, CIMS Stores, eBay, and Pillowcases
Just a quick note to let everyone know some recent dates have been added so check the tour dates below. Don't miss a show. And the Supersuckers will be heading to South America here again soon and those dates will be posted within the next week. Look for a European tour in March. Stay tuned as there's lot of news on the way.
We've added more titles to the iTunes store lately. Even the 20th Anniversary Show on DVD will be on the iTunes store. And the 20th Anniversary CD is available at the CIMS Stores - here's their link for a list of the record stores. While we've watched record stores (I still call them record stores) struggle it's very important to remember to support them. Man I know it's tough when there's some real crap music out there being shoved down the throats of the youth but there's still some gems to be found including the Supersuckers 20th Anniversary Show on CD. Yep! Wow are we excited to finally have that release made available to stores. So please go out grab a dozen and tell your pals to do the same. You won't regret it and if you do we'll refund you. Maybe. All refunds are subject to review by the Mid-Fi Recordings Refund Bureau of Investigation
So I haven't given up on the eBay action either. In fact, Dan Thunder Bolton donated some items and you can find them in our listings.
Finally, the 20th Anniversary DVD will be going out to members here soon so stay tuned. And check out these fancy pillowcases we made. Snappy indeed.
October 16, 2009 Getting back on the road, after maternity leave.
Happy Birthday GUS!!
We're headed out to St. Louis, Minneapolis, and up to the Mountains of Colorado. I hope to see everyone out there, to witness the rock, and meet our newest addition... not Elvis, she's too tiny, but a full grown Metal Marty Chandler. He is taking the place of our recently departed, long time friend, and partner in rock, Rontrose. After 20 plus years of rock, and debauchery Ron has decided to move on. We wish him the best.
C'mon out to see Metal Marty, we will be celebrating his Birthday at the Cabooze in Minneapolis MN with our good friend Taco. We'll be bringing back some classic Supersucker songs, that you all haven't heard in awhile.
Speaking of birthdays, please give a warm round of applause to the newest Bolton Family addition.. Gus.
Just a quick word to touch on the recent developments here in Supersuckers land. You may or may not have heard that the amazing Mr. Rontrose Heathman has left the band. Well this is unfortunately true. He has decided to finally cut himself loose from the grind that this band can be and while we are sad to see him go, we wish him all the best in whatever it is he decides to do. We hope he finds the happiness that has eluded him over the last couple of years.
That said, the show must roll on, and roll on it will! We have recruited the same fella who did such an awesome job when Ron took an extended hiatus from the band seven years ago, the incredible Mr. Marty Chandler to fill in for now, and while we all know that filling the big shoes of Rontrose is a tough gig, we feel that Marty is up for the challenge. He's a real monster on the guitar and he's bringing some much needed fresh air to the 'Suckers live show. He's probably at home right now, cramming as many of our songs into his head and his fingers as is humanly possible. I sent him an impossibly long list of new songs to learn so we can hopefully get to mixing up our set list a little more than we have been lately.
So come on out to the shows and get to know Marty. We are certain that, while we'll all miss Ron, this new chapter in the ongoing saga that is the story of the Supersuckers will be an awesome one.
September 24, 2009 20th Anniversary Show Coming Soon on DVD
The 20th Anniversary Show on DVD will be mailed out to all the Fan Club Members by the end of October.
Anyone with a current membership through 10/1/09 will get a copy of the DVD in the mail.
If you're not in the fan club aka PIT we will have the DVD available for pre-order soon.
The Supersuckers finally got a new van. I'm going to continue to offer some items on eBay for the fans. Some of these items are exclusive to eBay and will not be offered in the web store. This is a great way for the Supersuckers to raise some cash and a great way for the fans to get their hands on some real unique items. We'll call it a win win. Just keep checking these auctions out.
Finally, the 21st Anniversary of the Supersuckers is coming up. So stay tuned for a limited edition signed clear Vinyl box set bought to us from our friends at Flotation Records. Stay Tuned. And obviously look for the test pressing on eBay... And please visit the Supersuckers on Facebook.
September 18, 2009 Elvis has entered the building!
We here at the Spaghetti household are proud to announce that Elvis has entered the building!
Elvis Glo Danger Daly
And here she is! Elvis Glo Danger Daly (that's right, my real last name isn't Spaghetti, sorry to report)
Born 9/9/09 weighing 8 lbs, 10 oz.
Ah, fatherhood. It's an awesome thing to have a newborn once again. It's been so long it almost feels like it's the first time. Almost. It's been eight and a half years since Quattro was this tiny (well, truth be told, he was never this tiny - he weighed almost 10 lbs when he was born, so he came out as big as your average 2 month old and she doesn't even weigh 9 lbs yet!), so suffice it to say, I'm a little out of practice when it comes to having a baby around the house. But I'm a quick learner and it's all coming back to me. Thankfully, she's a great baby - she only wakes up a couple times a night when she's hungry and she hardly ever cries. It's surprisingly quiet here at the house! My wife is recovering nicely from a c-section birth. Her pain is being managed thanks to the marvels of modern medicine and it's narcotic contingency and as long as she doesn't skip a dose, she feels pretty good. Ooh, the c-section - that's a pretty big stinking deal. One minute your wife is standing up getting ready to receive a shot in her back and the next minute your baby is being pulled from her belly like a dream from the depths of your mind. It looks a little something like this -
Elvis emerging from the belly.
Okay, so it looks exactly like this. This shot is pretty graphic but it's totally awesome in that "National Geographic" kind of way.
So now we're just chillin' at home and getting our relax on. (Although I did sneak out of the hospital the day after she was born to play a show here in Seattle which was super surreal to go and do. But it was an awesome show - a lot of fun and a good turnout as well - and I got to make the announcement that she was born to an enthusiastic crowd of the Seattle branch of Awesomologists, so it was well worth the effort.) We're bonding with our new girl and getting used to life as a four piece. We never felt incomplete as a three piece, but now that there's four of us we can't imagine it any other way. It's bizarre how much love you're capable of, isn't it?
Speaking of what you're capable of, we're getting ready to get back to work here real soon. October finds us back in action again where you will see the "new look" Supersuckers. "New Look" you say? Well just come out to the shows and find out what I'm talking about. It's a bit of a shock, even to us, but the surprise is that I think we will be even better than ever once the dust has settled. I know, I'm being very cryptic and vague but all I can say at the moment is please come on out to the shows and find out for yourself what I'm hinting at. I know you will love it as much as we do.
Well, I gotta go and help the wife out - I guess the baby had a real blow out at the changing table. Have you ever seen baby poop? Can anyone say yellow ricotta? 'Cause that's exactly what it looks like! Yikes!!!
Quattro & his baby sister
Here's one more photo for ya. In case you're wondering how Quattro is doing with the baby, here's a little glimpse...
He's a proud big brother for sure.
That's all for now, I just thought you might enjoy a little update on what the Spaghetti clan is up to. I'll be back to the business of rock real soon. Until then, stay in touch, join the PIT or visit our webstore - just keep on thinkin' those Supersucker-y thoughts!

August 18, 2009 South America and a solo show in Seattle
The poster for the show in Buenos Aires
I'm back! That's right, I made it back from South America relatively unscathed. I gotta tell you though, them bastards are savages.
We didn't play until after two in the morning on a Friday night in Sao Paulo. ("No one can make it to the show before then because of all the traffic on Friday night" was what we were told. Right.) I guess Sao Paulo is like the third largest city in the world or some crazy thing like that and after flying into it, I tend to believe it. It looked like about 100 Manhattan's, stretched out as far as the eye could see. It was truly unbelievable. I've never seen or been to anywhere quite like it. Buenos Aires was no slouch either, in fact the crowd was a little bit more up for the show there and one of the highlights of the trip happened there as well - After the show, Jordan (Shapiro, sidekick extraordinaire) and I were heading to the t-shirt stand to join Chris Neal in trying to sell some crap to the Argentineans when Jordan took a mighty tumble from the front of the stage. Yep, he pretty much just fell right off the stage, landing flat on his back and sending some chairs flying in the process. It was painfully funny. Painful being the operative word as far as Jordan was concerned. The funny thing is that Jordan doesn't even drink, so there's really no excuse for what happened, he just misjudged the stairs coming down the front of the stage and down he went. Maybe you had to be there and maybe Jordan would rather I didn't share this little tidbit with you, but hey, I think it's worth a little re-telling. Here's some kind of okay camera-phone photos of our time down there...
The crowd in Buenos Aires
The crowd in Sao Paulo
So that was a great trip and I'm looking forward to getting back there with the fellas in the band. Looks like we're gonna head back down there in November, so that'll be even more off the hook because all I heard down there was "When are you coming back with the Supersuckers?"
Speaking of off the hook, I'm going to be doing another one of my awesome solo shows right here in Seattle this Saturday. It's gonna be at the Sunset Tavern on the 22nd of August (which happens to be this Saturday evening), kind of early, so there's no excuse not to come out and experience some good old fashioned entertainment. I'm gonna be hitting the stage at around 7:00 pm and I think my good buddy, the amazing Mr. Metal Marty Chandler will be joining me, so come on out and be somebody and let me get your night rolling. It'll be a great way to kick off your Saturday night. Don't miss it!
On the radio in Buenos Aires
So I reckon that's the news for now. I'm at home now with the missus and we're on full on baby alert. Sept 9 is the due date, so we're buckling down, getting everything ready for our new arrival. We'll keep you posted as to the details of that action as well, but in the meantime, come on out see the "big proud papa on the stage" It'll be a good time for sure...
So the other day found us face to face with the incomparable Ms. Joan Jett and, as we're driving today for something like 9 hours, I find myself with a little time to share some of the experience with you. First of all, things did not start out smoothly between us and her. When we got to the venue, which was in a town called Eufaula, Oklahoma, we discovered that the dressing room that was to be ours had been taken by someone named Joan Jett, so we were a little bit pissy about the prospect of having to stand around outside in the hot, sticky, sucks that was the day there. Fortunately our hotel was nearby so we were taken there by a runner at the venue to cool off for an hour or so before we needed to be back to do our set.
When we got back, the crowd was just starting to fill in as we were about to go on, and a very nice fella named Keith let us have access to his bitchin' Airstream trailer he had parked behind the stage. This Keith fella was so nice, he showered us with gifts, (the highlight of which were these awesome guitar straps his brother makes, which you will now see on my bass guitar) and let us bask in the glory of his air conditioned trailer while we waited to hit the stage. During our show I noticed some of the "cool kids" watching us from the side of the stage. Turns out this was Joan Jett's band, who are all fans of the mighty mighty Supersuckers and ONE of them happened to be the amazing Mr. Tommy Price, drummer extraordinaire, keeper of the Big Beat, who you may remember from being Billy Idol's drummer back in the day. We used to worship his drumming back in the 80's and I remember auditioning drummers for my old glam rock band using the "What Would Tommy Price Do" creedo for our hiring. So it was fantastic to meet him after our set and to hear that he was a fan? Wow, it just doesn't get much better than that.
So then there's Joan, who we first see backstage, kind of yelling at her monitor man about how her in ear monitor "isn't f***ing working!" so it doesn't seem like the most opportune time to approach her and ask for a photo together. But then, she turns around and sees us standing there and she's all grace and smiles. She actually seemed happy to meet us and when I asked her if I could have a photo with her, she happily obliged.
Here's the photo of old gray-beard and the ageless, Joan Jett. It's kind of blurry because Rontrose took it and he's got the shakes real hard. (kidding, of course! But he did take this photo and I don't know why it's so damn blurry.)
Her set was chock full of hits. You forget how many popular songs she had until she starts running 'em down. Of course there's the obvious, "I Love Rock-N-Roll" and "Bad Reputation" but there's also "Do You Wanna Touch", "I Hate Myself For Loving You", "Crimson And Clover", "Cherry Bomb" and so many other great ones. She did an awesome version of the Replacement's "Androgynous" which came off as much more of a statement in her (tiny) hands. (She's really small, I think my boy Quattro probably out-weighs her. And he's eight!)
After the show, I waited outside of her (our) dressing room like some star-struck fanboy for her to come out and sign a couple of things for me. I was waiting with a guy who said to me, "So, this is what it feels like to be on the other side, eh? I'm usually waiting for you to come out and sign something and here you are waiting with me for one." Pretty humbling stuff. But it was all right, we didn't have to wait very long and when she came out, she was just as gracious and nice as you'd ever want someone to be. I told her how she stole our dressing room and she looked just shocked. She said "We always get two. You can come in and hang out if you want to, though." So, all was forgiven and, even though I didn't take her up on the offer (we were about to leave) I had her sign a couple of CD's - one to Quattro, who she asked if he was playing any instruments and I told her that yes, he plays the guitar and the drums, all at the age of 8 and she seemed pleased by this information, and one to my unborn daughter, Elvis. When I asked her to sign one to Elvis she looked at me kind of funny and said, "Elvis?". I then told her that it was my daughter's name and she lit up, saying to her manager, "Did you hear that? He has a daughter named Elvis! Isn't that a cool name for a girl?"
Yes, yes it is cool and so are you, Joan. I hope that our paths cross again soon.
So that's the Joan Jett story. Before she left, she gave me a big hug and said "let's do this again sometime". Something that I intend to hold her to because, after all, we both love rock-n-roll now don't we?
And so do you, I'm sure, so keep your eyes peeled for all the latest Supersuckers and Eddie Spaghetti action right here.
...are big and bright (clap clap clap clap) deep in the heart of Texas. The sun during the day, is hotter than hell, (clap clap clap clap) deep in the ass of Texas!
That's right, we're in the thick of it now. The thick of what? The thick of the hot, sticky, sucks that is the weather down here in Texas right now. I mean, right now I'm comfortably sitting in the air conditioned van (that has been magically resurrected), so I'm not feeling it as I write this, but man oh man, when we pull it over and step out, it really hits you like a ton of (really hot) bricks. Last night we rocked Austin and it was good. Real good, if I say so myself. Great turnout for a Tuesday night. And it was at an outdoor venue which made it all the more surprising that there was anyone there because, as I think I've made clear, it's a little bit uncomfortable outside here. Right now as I type this little note we're heading to Dallas on what has to be one of the worst stretches of highway in the United States (if not the world). This drive up the I-35 in Texas is notoriously bad - bad drivers, bad road (with lots of construction so at least they appear to be working on it) and most of all, bad exits. Or Texits as we call 'em. To get on or off the highway here is to put your life in your hands every time. They have little off-shoots that come up way too suddenly and just as dangerous, if not a little bit more so, are the on-ramps, which are just as small and short as the off-ramps so they give you little time to get up to speed before you're, Bam!, right back on the highway. But that said, we do love Texas - the rock fans here have always been good to the Supersuckers and we always have a good time when we're here.
Speaking of good times, we here at Mid-Fi Recordings are proud to offer a lucky winner an unforgettable day on the links with myself and the always enjoyable Mr. Jordan Shapiro. That's right, just click here to bid on the chance to hit the golf course and make a fool out of me and my un-enviable skills with the sticks as we host the first annual Mid-Fi Golf-A-Rama on Tuesday, August 4th. The location is yet to be determined but it will be somewhere in the vicinity of Los Angeles, CA and it will probably be sometime around noon. So, if you're able to get the time off work and you're going to be in that general area, I highly recommend you take this opportunity to join myself, Jordan and Gold Top PIT member and Tavern On Main owner, Craig Theide, for a wonderful day of cussing at a little white ball, or as someone once put it, "A nice long walk... spoiled". It will fall on the day of my solo show (with Mr. Shapiro) at said Tavern On Main in El Segundo, where we will be taking the stage before heading to the airport that night for a trip to South America where Jordan and I will be playing for three nights!
But first, it's more Supersuckers action in the works. We have a show coming up in Oklahoma that we're all looking forward to. We're going to be sharing the stage with none other than the lovely Ms. Joan Jett! Yep, it really doesn't get much better than that now does it? (Okay it does, but really, it's pretty darn cool.) And then we head over to Colorado for some mile-high rock-n-rolling there where we always enjoy being as well.
So keep an eye out for us while you can - we're going to be laying low for a little while in order for me to be home when my new baby girl is born, so this may be the last you'll see of us until October or so. Don't worry, we'll make good use of the down-time. I plan on getting in that quarry and mining some fresh rock for you all to check out when we hit the road again, so all won't be for naught. It will be time well spent and worth it when we come back - better and stronger than ever.
July 16, 2009 Digital Downloads, eBay, and the NOT so Mighty Mighty Big White Van
Here's a quick update for everyone...
The Supersuckers just listed some more shows in the Digital Download section along with the addition of the now out of print Mid-Fi Recordings Sampler. We hope to keep adding a few more releases to this section so please be on the lookout and keep the suggestions coming. The latest installment is a show from Los Angeles where the Supersuckers played 3 Nights leading up to a Big Show on NYE to close out 2007... I think it turned out pretty well. And with the help of Floyd who was able to mix and master the show it really does capture the evening nicely. Especially the country set.
The footage from the 20th Anniversary show is all edited. All that's left is dropping in the chapters and working on the packaging for this release. If everyone enjoyed the 20th Anniversary CD then you'll flip out when you see the DVD. Here's a little sneak peak. And as always Fan Club Members will get their copy in the mail first... So if you're not in the Fan Club / PIT please join here. If there ever was a time to join the fan club now is the time. Lot's of great surprises coming so don't delay. And your membership and or contributions keep the PIT rolling on. Hell it even helps get everyone rolling to the next town... I can't think of another fan club like it in the world. Don't delay and go for the Gold Top.
On another note I've had some fans ask if there's still LP's available and the answer is yes - please see this link.
Finally I'd like to thank the folks at Oskar Blues for helping to sponsor the release of the Must've Been High Demo's. And the incredible folks at Hot Leathers for coming up with some of the best shirts ever. Your support is unbelievable. And we're always looking for partners so please keep that in mind if you're reading this and want to sponsor a release or buy ad space on the van; when we get a new van. This might be a long shot but if anyone out there knows anyone at Ford and can help us get in touch with someone for a refund please get back to me. We've spent more money on repairs than I care to mention. I've written letters to Ford but I haven't had much luck.
I'll see you on the road and if you were one of the lucky folks of the Sjock festival wasn't that an amazing show... I was lucky enough to be there and enjoyed reading the review in the message board. What a great festival that was for everyone. I'd compare it to the Hootenany but in Europe. And the Hootenany is always a great time. Thanks for reading...

July 5, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Crap!
I still can't post any pictures. Ugh, what a bummer.
We are in Irvine, CA today- woke up too early of course, we are still in the jet of the lag...
Hootenanny was great. It was just as we hoped. Hot, sticky and a kiddie pool. The guys went on really early, I think it was a punishment for not playing last year. They were billed high on the poster but played at like 3:30, it was good though, we got to get our shop on at the booths. Eddie bought Elvis a skirt, I think as an ode to Churilla, it has a monster theme to it and I bought a butterfly hair clip with a skull in the middle, very "dia de los muertos" you can check them out at dulcemuerte.com.
Bolton rolled in about 3 minutes before they played and left before the stage was cleared, I love it, he's a total rock guy.
And now here we sit, fresh out of the pool, already had breakfast and it isn't even past 10 a.m..
We are about to go our separate ways for a bit. Q and I are off to AZ to visit my family. It has been over a year since I have been back there, it is time. I wish it wasn't going to be 150* but it is time nonetheless. We are really excited to see them all, hang out and enjoy my Mom's cooking and conversation. I miss her.
Eddie is going to hit the road with the guys. They are heading up to Lake Tahoe and then back to Europe for a couple of festivals. I'm telling you, that guy better be keeping track of his miles, he's sure to fly free to the moon when the seats come available.
We will meet back up at home mid July, just before my birthday. We have spent a lot of the last 10 years' anniversaries and birthdays apart, not to mention some major holidays. That is all changing for us, whether we hit the road or Eddie stay put- we are going to make it a point to be together more. Having the "triangle" together for the last 3-4 weeks has been amazing, I am sure there's a better word for it. I thought we would all get sick of each other. We are usually going different ways after a week or two, so to be together 24/7 and really want it to stay that way makes me feel grateful that we are celebrating 10 years this fall and things couldn't be more solid. I think it's rare, I hope it's not I genuinely wish more people had the kind of relationship I do. I am not bragging, I'm not rubbing it in your face, I'm telling you it's out there, go get it, go ahead.
July 1, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. London!
So I only have a second. I should be splashing my face with water and putting on my clothes but I just wanted to say that we made it. We have reached our last gig. Woke up this morning in... where were we? Sheffield maybe. Anyway, woke up early and got the hell. Took less than 3 hours to get here, checked in to our Camden hotel and we were off. I have loads of pics to post as soon as we find that cord (or replace it once back in the states), we took the tube, ate ice cream by the river and we rode the "London Eye"- man, it was HOT! It still is, speaking of which this a/c we have going on in the room is hypnotizing me into not getting ready and if I'm not there at least by doors to get the merch set up I'll get fired!!! Ya right. But I do want to have a proper evening in London, Q is having room service right now and I will have dinner with Eddie, no doubt standing behind the booth- hey, whatever works, rest will have to wait.
June 29, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Newcastle, England
Upon Tyne, as they say. Or, they may say- that's what the map says.
So here we sit, still in our underwear. Well some of us. This morning we treated ourselves to breakfast in bed, room service style.
We were up late last night, Skyping with my family. My mom went to my sisters and we got to chat with them along with my niece and nephew (who was a wee bit sleepy himself). It was nice to see all of their faces, even if my mom's first words to me were "you look tired". Ouch!
I feel great, we all do, amazingly. We are wrapping it up here in the UK, our "Family Holiday Tour" is coming to an end, with a mere three shows to be had before we are back in the states, resting our heads in Hollywood at the Chateau Marmont, thanks tot he fabulous Carolyne. I can't wait to get in the pool, jet lagged with nothing to do. No boxes to move, no luggage to hump in and out of the car- well, for two days anyway. And we get to see Chris Neal!!! And all the guys. Eddie was just saying this morning that he misses playing with the guys, which I think is cute. Awwwwww......
But today we are going to walk up the street to do some quality shopping. We have some gift buying to wrap up and I really would like to bring my Mother something other than the magnet I bought her in Scotland. I can say what I got her because last night I was informed her and my sister only "look at the pictures" in my blog and they don't actually read it, but I have a sneaking suspicion she reads it at work, so SURPRISE, you lucky lady are getting yourself a magnet!
I should go now. Seems like we have lost our camera cord, to download pics into the computer. That's a bummer, I have to go spank someone's butt about it.
Yep, we've finally made it to the UK and we're feeling pretty darn good about it. Brighton was a lovely town with a pretty good rock crowd to boot. They were a small but enthusiastic bunch last night and it seems as though the next week or so of shows is looking to be real good. Right now we're on the road from Brighton to York, which apparently is about as long a haul you can do and still be in Britain. (What's up with the three different names for this country anyway? They got Great Britain, The United Kingdom and England. What gives people? One name not good enough for ya? Ya gotta have three? Whatever.) The guy at our hotel this morning sounded quite amazed that we'd be going through "practically every county in England" today and that we weren't leaving until after noon. It's a whole 4 1/2 hour drive! My god! How will we ever do it? We figure even if it takes us five hours, we'll still be in York by 6:00 pm, so no worries here mate. That's plenty of time on the ol' Spaghetti clock!
We had a great time in Brighton this morning. It's a beach town so we walked from our (really cool) hotel down to the Brighton Pier where Quattro and I rode the vomit launcher and some crazy roller coaster type of thingy and the mechanical bull (which we didn't stay on for even five of the thirty seconds necessary to win the prize!)
JD & Q at the Brighton Pier
Q, about to get tossed off the bull!
Last night marked the beginning of my shows with Ricky Warwick who was super good and really nice as well. The crowd seemed to really be into his action. Each night we're going to flip a coin to see who gets to decide the order of the night's show. Last night I won the toss and I elected to go on first as I was kind of tired of going on last every night so far. It's nice to be done early every once in awhile. That way I have a chance to hit the merch booth and hang with the wife and kiddo while meeting the good people who turned out to see a couple of "rock guys" in action.
So tonight it's York, the "most haunted city in England". I really like York, it's a super cool town with lots of little windy streets that are great for getting a good roam on. I'm looking forward to showing it to Q. He's really having a blast out here on the road and he makes it really fun for the grown-ups too. We get to see the sights through his eyes as well as our own and that's a pretty special vantage point for sure. Right now, as I type this he's in the back seat reading the last Harry Potter book, which is about as big as his head! Don't they say you shouldn't read something that's bigger than your head? Oh, wait... That's eat. You shouldn't eat anything bigger than your head, which is also a problem with this kid - he's always hungry. He just ate a (big-ass) English breakfast and he's already hungry again. We're pulling it over now at what he calls a "snack stop" and we're going to have to get him something to eat. Again.
Well, I better go. I've got a hungry kid and a thirsty wife to tend to. All in a day's work for this rock-n-rollin' family guy. I'll be in touch again real soon. Until then, keep an eye on my wife's "blog" for more up to the minute postings on the haps of the Spaghetti clan as we make our way across Europe in our crazy Vauxhall Zafira, the one with the manual transmission (ugh, the traffic jams are a bitch) and the steering wheel on the right hand side of the car.
Ishn't thaht veird?
-Eddie Spaghetti, 6/24/09
Speyer, Germany. The last German show before heading to the UK
June 27, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Glasgow rock city!
Here I sit at the merch booth with Q and Eddie. What a rad night. We showed up at the club and were promptly greeted by Ally, super nice guy. We drop our things, no soundcheck for E, he likes to keep it a little off the cuff like that. Anyway of course Q is hungry, actually we all were, we were doing laundry at lunchtime and forgot to feed ourselves. So we're walking and spot Chippy's, funny name, great food. Come back to the club with just enough time to set up shop. I'm really diggin' selling merch, getting to talk with everyone, and I LOVE hearing that these cool people are reading my little blog, like Fille (sorry if I butchered your name). I have so much respect for Amber and Chris. They do this shit every night and it's not easy but I'd like to see them do it almost 8 months pregnant. Ha!
Ricky Warwick is playing right now and if you don't have his record go out and get it. Go ahead , I'll wait... He's amazing, one of those voices you could just listen to all night, one of those guys that makes cheating sound romantic. The bastard.
Speaking of bastards, Eddie's just sitting here looking at me so I should try and show him a good time.
Hello Scotland!
I heard "if it's not Scottish, it's crap!" and I believe it.
I love Scotland, it is beautiful.
Our drive from Manchester was late in the day because we were having so much fun there, it was nice to hit the road and have an evening of English and Scottish countryside out the window. But first! Traffic jams. They do 'em up good here, traffic jam-up's are a plenty.
We pull into town at about 9 p.m. and head straight for our hotel, which looked very nice online. We were looking forward to it, after all we have the night off, which means two nights in the same place, it's like a birthday when that happens. Very exciting. You know what isn't exciting? The look on Eddie's face after he had checked us in. He came out, I was in the car still (Q was asleep) and Daddy didn't look happy. I can't tell if he was thinking about the place sucking or thinking about the upcoming events because he knew we wouldn't be staying.
We made our way into the room, but not without a little drama. A telltale sign we shouldn't stay. I leave Q at the door to tell Eddie to take the lift with the bags because there were more than a few stairs to climb- I took the stairs with the key to look at the room (hey, I gotta get in some exercise, there's no Ballard Health Club here). Well for some reason after Q told Eddie he should take the lift and he then took the stairs. I had already made it to the hovel and when Eddie came to the door, there was no Q. Shit! This is just like that time in Disenyland when we both look at each other and notice simultaneously that neither of us have our shorty. Double shit. We are in Scotland now, not Disneyland where they have people hired specifically to look for lost kids- really, they do, it's shameful, I know but this is indeed a fact.
I send Eddie racing down to the lobby and then get a call from the front desk "um, do you have a child missing?" I wanted to say "wrong room lady" but I told her yes, and that his father was currently doing the walk of shame.
I can't lie, Q was upset. He is good in strange places, he deals with his ever changing surroundings and adults on a daily basis like a pro, but he was lost and he had just woken up. Point deducted from the Daly parent score sheet- well, a point from Eddie's side anyway. I'm kidding...
From York to Manchester
Well here we are. We are at the club, "Night and Day" and it is a little like night and day compared to last nights show.
We woke up really early this morning in our York hotel. Due to our said old people establishment and rules- which was nice, other than the no a/c, sharing a bed with Q
and giant African sized spider that crawled under Quattro's shoe, things were good. The breakfast was very English, my favorite. Have you ever tried baked beans with eggs and toast? Do it! Go ahead- do it, it is delicious and sticks with you way longer than a bowl of cereal does. After a quick swim for Q,
we packed the car and headed into the city center where the spooky stuff lies. York
is said to be the most haunted city in England, so we were all about that. We walked around the curling streets, picked up a scooter for Q and a white belt for Eddie (YAY!!!). I bought some lemon curd for my grandparents, something about little bottles with jams, honey and curd always make me think of them.
We were going to eat lunch by the water but decided to go for a bit of tea first and we ended up at Betty's. Oh Betty... you are adorable, and delicious! We ordered a tier of tea sandwiches and sweet treats- it was VERY English, you know, the fancy kind. But I have to say, the service was a bit... cold? Our waiter was French and I'm not saying that is why he was cold, I like the French, I don't care what anyone says, ha ha. He seemed irritated to be working and it was such a cute place, it would probably get on my nerves too. To see people in and out all day, pretending they actually have afternoon tea with tiny sandwiches and itty bitty pastries. It's like playing dress up, cute but annoying to those who can't join in I guess.
Well it was lovely and we sat right by the window so we could people watch, a favorite of the Daly family. I could people watch all day long and sometimes I do. There were a lot of pregnant women and they were all dressed up like babies- you know, maternity clothes are made to make you look like a giant baby, I guess to prepare you for the upcoming arrival. Well, enough about that.
We got our shop on a little more, Q got his characiture drawn and then we decided it was time to move onward.
It sorta feels like NYC here n Manchester. Very American looking, not a lot of gothic style buildings which you find almost everywhere in Europe and the UK. It felt a little like home, or do I just miss my home? I predicted this trip would be just long enough to make me want to come back home and I think we are right on track people.
Our hotel room over looked the city center, where they have a huge fountain that kids can run in. The streets were lined with tents, with bits of crap for sale. We love buying off the street. It is cheaper and more interesting for sure. Q and Eddie decided to partake in the street grub, getting sausages and cheeseburgers.
Q had a couple of bites and then started making this hissing sound- he got the stinkiest of stinky cheeses on his burger. He said he "kinda" liked it, but after every bite, he made the hissing sound. I think it is because the cheese was so strong he could visualize a stream of green smoke coming out of his mouth... well after eating it was time to hit the fountain.
It was hot in Manchester, the weather is quite different here than it was in Europe, which is good because we are heading to LA and then on to AZ next weekend, so we should get used to it I guess.
June 24, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. York, England
Wow, I didn't have internet all day and I felt the pangs of a drug addict.
I am sitting backstage right now in York, at Fibbers, listening to Ricky play and I need to get my ass out there because he is good. Real good.
But first I wanted to a bit about our time in Brighton.
We spent the night at this really rad place, the Blanch House, where Q made a friend, Tom, the three legged cat.
The staff were so nice and the room was amazing- anyway, this morning we knew we had a 5 hour drive ahead of us but couldn't help but get up a little early and walk on the pier. There were roller coasters a plenty which Q was set on, I was happy I am currently pregnant, Eddie gets to ride the puker, not me.
We hop in the car, but not without a little bit of drama.
Eddie went and grabbed the car to pull up front so we could load our things.
He walks into the room a little quiet, we gather the last bits and he turns to me right before we walk out with a somewhat serious face... "I just want you to know there's a little drama unfolding out front". I'm like totally confused, he was gone for like 15 minutes checking out and moving the car around... oh wait, did I say "car"?
Evidently he pulls into the front spot and pops up on the curb a little and when he backs off it rubs our bumper on the cars bumper in front of us... well, guess who was watching? Ms. Grumpy pants. He didn't hit it, he rubbed it- anyway, she was gone when we came downstairs but I guess not before she put him through the ringer. Asking for addresses and names and calling Avis (good luck with that lady, you'll be on the phone all day) and her son took a picture of him. HIlarious! There was no mark on our car and I told Eddie it was ridiculous and that at least she only asked for his addy and name... so then I got to thinking, this is Eddie- my Eddie!... my next question? "What did you tell her your name was?"
From Germany to Belgium to France to England (and a tiny bit of the Nederlands)
all in a days work I guess.
We drove to Gent, Belgium last night, spent our evening off watching "Desperaux" and booking our next batch of hotels. Things are a little different in the UK. They use this thing called the pound and well let's just say, it's good to make the money over here (since our dollar has taken another crap) but it sure isn't good to spend it. And after Cheeseburg I'm not taking any chances, so I really did my research. I use this website called venere.com and I highly recommend it if you are coming across the pond.
Anyway, this morning we were met with a really warm splash of milk for our cereal. I asked the lady at the hotel if they had any cold milk and she said "yes, it's next to the coffee machine"... I walk over to find a glass jar with what I'd declare, warmer than room temp milk. It was sitting next to the espresso machine, which like many machines gets hot as it runs... so there's the milk temp for ya. It was pretty bad. The milk in Europe is like milk on a farm. When I was younger we stayed a couple of summers in North Dakota with family and they would milk cows and that fresh milk could sit out forever it seemed and not go bad. It's a little like that here, it's delicious, like cream really but warm milk on a bowl of museli? Ick! Momma don't like that. Eddie doesn't mind it and Q is like "Mikey" he'll eat anything.
Speaking of eating anything. In the states there are all these rules on what one should avoid while pregnant. I've never been one for rules, I mean, I like to think I am smart about the choices I make, especially those that will affect someone other than myself, but what's with all the fear in food?
Do they not eat sushi in Japan while pregnant? I'd be hard pressed to find a woman carrying a child over here that avoids sliced sandwich meat for 9 (make that 10) months and the cheese! Please, the cheese is undeniably one of the greatest things about Europe. I could really go on forever. Like wine. I could potentially be tackled in the states if I were to sit down and order a glass of wine but here- they practically bring it to you. I indulge. I'm not going to lie. Truth is, my heart burn is so debilitating a couple of sips and I'm done. I guess that's the Mom in me, the part that I was no doubt born with, given the chance to make a rebel move the core of my being will stop me. So I eat the cheese, I avoid the sliced meat because it is not my thing, I eat sushi when I want and when I know it's good- which is how I roll even when I'm not knocked up. You don't want to mess with iffy raw fish, even if you live in Japan.
We are now sitting on the P&O ferry, leaving Calais, France heading back to the White Cliffs of Dover, where this whole thing started. Well, where the fog of our jet lag set in. We are now past the halfway mark and it feels perfectly timed. I am beginning to think of all the things I want to do this summer at home and the things I will be doing before I get there. This trip is at it's peak and it is only going to get better. I can smell it... or is that the ocean?
From the ferry dock at Dover we will head west to Brighton. It's on the beach and I hear there's some fun to be had. Words like mini-golf and sandcastles where spoke from Eddie's mouth. He who has been practically everywhere and can somehow attain all the info. Remembering where the good coffee is and how to get to the shopping streets. He remembers the clubs and their backstages (I only remmeber them once I've been there, Q can recall which ones he has rode his scooter in). I can't remember if I've been to Brghton or not, that's the case with a lot of places I've traveled with the band. Being on a bus, the travel is so different. You wake up in a town, usually close to the club which is a toss up if it's in a good part of town or not. There's no hotel to get your bearings together in, you step out and it feels a little like you've missed it. You didn't see the crazy factories with fireballs shooting out the top or the beautiful villages (that we call "willages") and you didn't stop at the bridge just to get out and take it all in. The truck stop "pull it overs" are all in the middle of the night, which is really part of the whole experience for us. Finding weird food and candy, buying postcards But there are great things about the bus travel. There's no traffic jams- well not for you, because you are sleeping. You aren't exhausted from driving when you show up at the clubs, and there's something about waking up in a new place every morning that is really thrilling. I feel the itch when I am home too long, whether it is jumping on a bus full of the guys or sliding into the drivers seat myself. I'm grateful for where I live, it is fantastic but sometimes I want to just get back out there and shake things up. It's not too much, it's not hectic, it's not boring- it's our life and I wouldn't trade it for anyones. So I guess I will take a second and thank Eddie for getting up there every night and banging on the guitar and singing his heart out, this is some Willie Nelson shit we are pulling and none of it would be possible without that man and I guess the whole experience wouldn't be possible without all three of us- we may just give him something to write about somewhere along the way. I'll thank Willie too right now, for being an inspiration to Eddie, what was once a 15 year olds dream to be David Lee Roth has evolved into a lifelong career lead by that same desire, only now it's so much more than big hair and tight pants- girls and too much booze. It may sound lame to all of you who think that is the extent of the rock n' roll world, rest assured if you were living it, you'd want to lead the way with a dream that can withstand- or outlast bad fashion, trendy music and girls you met at the rock show. Except for me, he met me at a rock show, but somehow things turned out just a little different.
June 21, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Attack of the walrus! Koo- koo- kachoo!
You have got to see this.
Happy Father's Day
I raise my glass to all you father's out there. Well, actually just the good ones.
We spent our final night with the Hot Cheese and their family in Speyer. It was bittersweet, sad to leave them as we all had a great time but excited for the next turn in our little adventure.
We will be heading back on the ferry to the UK tomorrow. Tonight we reside in Heidelberg, Germany again. What a beautiful place. We woke up in our fabulous Club Room suite, where the mini bar is free and the pillows are plenty. After a classic Euro style breakfast we all headed to the pool. It was completely empty and really, really awesome.
After some quality time in the pool and a snoop around the nude area (hot tub, sauna and a solarium) we were off to find some good ol' German grub. We, with the help of the hotel guy, ended up at the Spiesel. It was exactly what the baby ordered. Our best German meal by far on this trip and it was right by the Karl- Theodor Bridge.
After "linner" we headed off to the trolley station to take a ride up to the castle, oh... that beautiful castle. But wait! First the rain. You can see it coming, dark cloud and the people on the walking street all start ducking under the shop overhangs or step into an archway. We follow suit (hey, when in Rome) and duck under cover for a few, then being the impatient Americans we are, we decided to just suck it up and get wet- we are not going to melt. Seconds later it seemed the rain just disappeared and the skies were clear as could be. Q kept part of his roll from his meal to feed his new fascination- pigeons.
Relationships doomed?
We figured out Geeps is like a good marriage. After little thought on the matter, I thought I would share my view incase any of you out there are in the market for a marriage... er, I mean a GPS.
You are together for the exact same purpose and rely on each other to do things the other can do themselves, but the set up is suited best for both of you. Being taken care of and the ever important, feeling needed.
Somehow in the mix, tasks are assigned as the things that you do "better" whether or not that is true remains undiagnosed for one simple purpose and that is to make the other feel good about themselves. While you take the much needed break in that department.
Every once in a while (or more often during a rough patch) you fail miserably because you defaulted. The reason only know by you seems maddeningly stupid to the other. You fight, call each other the obligatory name that infuriates one into stone cold silence, as if time is standing still for them but you are getting more lost by the second. It seems that things are gone. Thoughts of, why are we together? I could do all this by myself, probably better. Why did you change so drastically for what seems to be no reason at all? Will things ever be like they were? Were they ever that good?
All of the sudden you aren't a team player, you are screwing everything up, you think you went separate ways at an invisible fork in the road, or was it visible? You didn't see it because you don't have a map! There are no manuals, or maybe there was one at some point in the beginning but it is long gone like this relationship... or is it?
The signal pops back up and the silence parts and in rushes the love. You find yourself reminiscing about a really good time and all is forgiven- you know why you are together, apologies are exchanged but mostly from the side that lost their shit and all is right with the world.
You are now free to find your destination, that you let your partner map out for you.
He got us really lost again. That Geeps, but we love him and we're all learning a little more about the game.
June 20, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Good morning Eindhoven!
Ahhhh, I feel rested. I feel stiff as hell but rested.
We stayed at the Hotel Benno, cute lobby, great employees- really old beds. Alright, I'll just say it, it was kind of a dump.
When you walk in the htl lobby you think you are checking into the Ritz, everything is modern and funky but the rooms lacked the same enthusiasm to say the least. I'm not even going to talk about the shower, but I had to, my feet were black!
It was in the "Centrum" (think city center), which pretty much is where you always want to be on tour. Staying on the outskirts of anywhere is a drag.
So anyway, we walk up more curling, tiny stairs and the room was less than impressive. But like Eddie said "at least the bathroom is in the room!". Point taken. We decide it will get us through the night. Heidelberg is at our fingertips, we can almost taste it... I suddenly think I have too much riding on this next htl but out here the backstage and htl room is your home. Who wouldn't want them to rock, simultaneously in fact? Traveling with a kid, not to mention pregnant gal (but that is another blog) these things are important. You look for a little more than a place to sleep. Our checking in requires a certain pattern. It has to be within walking distance to a late night snack, we must have extra pillows (Mommy's can I get a "hell ya"?), we like to have a little space so we can whip out the Sculpturades and Uno games and E and I can have a little privacy- which in Europe is about as often as their is a bathtub... not often. Last night our beds laid there (they took a double room and added a bed, right next to the sink which was oddly placed in the room, set apart from the bathroom) right next to each other. All single mattresses, all leaning, heavily, to the right... I had a funny thought that in the middle of the night we'd all find ourselves piled on top of Eddie on the floor, this didn't happen, but it was a funny thought. You're probably not laughing, but you didn't see the beds.
Speaking of laughing, when we left Den Haag yesterday- I don't know what got into us but we were rolling in a fit of laughter, I had a thought that pot is legal in the Nederlands and I wonder if they just pumped it into the air? I thank them, I laughed until I cried and I can't even remember what about. Well there was Eddie choking on a jelly bean, that is making me laugh right now as I sit in the hotel lobby sipping on my cold coffee (boo) alone. Ahhh, next time we should bring a video camera- this tour has been full of hilarious moments.
Okay, Eddie and Q are back from packing up the car and I am sure to get "the look" momentarily so I will surprise him and pack it up. We've been together 10 years now, it's good to keep in interesting.
About last night...
Here is a picture of last night, from club Alstadt, where we were treated super nicely (again) and even though they had the dodgy ladder I had to climb up and down all night, it kept it interesting and everyone had a good laugh every time I successfully made it up (or down) because I would open my sailor mouth about how much I lothed the thing.
June 19, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Freaky- deaky Dutch
Woke up this morning and went downstairs where Eddie and I enjoyed a little breakfast while Q caught up on some zzzz's He was up all kinds of late last night watching said freaky-deaky dutch. After his 11:30 a.m. wake up call- or cover snatching from Eddie, we got him together and hit the streets of adorable Den Haag. First up, coffee because what they were dishing out at the Centrum was about as good as a week old beer. We head back over to the place that served us dinner, they know coffee.
We stopped at a bunch of little shoppes along the way, we are all on the search for some items on our Euro journey. It is always nice to have a "plan" otherwise we'd come home with a lot of crap and crap we don't need.
I want a new purse, a good one, not a Marshall's purse (not that there's anything wrong with that) and Q (well, Q wants everything but he's 8 so we allow that- remember my motto?) he wanted a wallet which he got in Switzerland. Check!
Eddie wants (aka needs desperately) a new guitar case- his doesn't have a handle... quality stuff right there and he wants a white belt. He got one in NYC about 3 years ago and let's just say it has seen better days.
So we're walking, we stop about just about every toy store. Picking up a little something for the new Ms. Daly, Q got a wooden bow and arrow set and a parachuting martian holding a guitar (which he named "Zinky") and a cool toy called "Zeebeez"- it's highly entertaining, I recommend it to anyone that is traveling with a kid. It was nice, it was fun to walk around with the family. We do so much driving and hanging out at the clubs, today was super nice to just wander. Eindhoven was only an hour and half drive so we, of course, waited until the last minute to leave, which is usually about 20 minutes past the last but this is our rodeo, so we can do that.
I found that purse I was looking for, it rocks, I love it so much I am waiting to use it after I get home. Touring is dirty, this purse is way too nice for the backstage floor. It will most likely turn into my diaper bag but it will be one kick ass diaper bag so I'll take it.
We found this huge music store where we just knew Eddie was going to walk out a winner- alas, it wasn't his day. The case they had he didn't like, it was kinda cheesy and even though it had a handle E's got his own thing going and when he wants something in particular, he waits for the kill.
Speaking of kill. I am going to kill myself if I have to sit here and listen to these boys pop that ZeeBeez toy one more time and I have to walk down this damn ladder backwards, in my floor dragging skirt I wore- so I better go. Pack it up, call it a day and tomorrow we rock Heildelberg. Actually I think the show is in Speyer, just outside there but we'll be staying two nights in that rad htl I booked, so I can't wait to get on with it. We will be slipping into our swim suits and walking through this fabulous castle, which I will post pics of. Eddie and I walked through this same castle when I was pregnant with Q. I could have stayed there for days, it was stunning.
So the Dutch shows were "ehh". I'm not sure if they "get it" or if they are just too brainwashed by the techno (which most European cities lean towards, if you ask me. There's almost always a curfew on rock shows so they can get out the glow sticks) but if I had to score it- the Germans take it. Their enthusiasm mopped the floors with those who reside in the Nederlands.

Achtung and gesundheit from glorious Germany! Yep, we're back on the good ol' Autobahn with JD at the wheel, tooling along at a cool 100 mph, Q in the back seat perusing his latest German comic and me in the navigator's seat making our way toward "Cheeseburg" (or Hamburg, I guess, as it's actually known). We have quite the long haul to do today, so at the insistence of the misses, I am writing you all a little note to update you on our latest. Last night was spent in Stuttgart ("Stuttfart") to a small but appreciative batch of shy Germans and I must say, Stuttfart is a cool town. We had a day off between our show Sunday night in Zurich and last night's show and after a nice leisurely afternoon spent in Zurich, where we tried to get our shop on but it was so damn expensive, we barely scratched the surface of what they had to offer, so we settled for some roamin' 'round and had some great lunch and took some nice pictures like this one here of Q by the river. (I know, I should know the name of this river, but alas, I don't)
Then it was off to Stuttfart with us where we enjoyed our first day of not having to pack it up and leave right when we woke up which was a real treat after all the constant moving around we've been doing since we arrived. Quattro has been honing his photographer's skills - he got a new digital camera before this trip and he's gotten quite good at capturing the odd little things that turn his crank. Things like this fountain in Stuttfart-
Pretty good, no? Yes!
We spent yesterday afternoon in the city center of Stuttfart where we treated ourselves to a nice Lunch/Dinner (or "Linner") at an outdoor cafe and I enjoyed one of Germany's finest creations - the German beer. Yes, if the Germans have done anything right in their illustrious history, it's the beer. It's pretty near perfect and it's the one thing that is temperature appropriate. Meaning it's actually cold. Whereas the milk, more often than not, is served barely below room temp and the coffee is often barely above. Anyway, here's to the German Brau!
As for Quattro, he's been having a good time with the Paceshifter boys (or "Hot Cheese" as we now call 'em. Don't ask why, we don't really know ourselves). Last night in Stuttfart he was backstage rockin' Seb's gold top as Seb tried to help him learn "My Sharona", which he has started to get a handle on. It sure makes this daddy proud!
Well, we're finally pulling into Cheeseburg after a brief period of panic involving Geeps deciding not to work for about 50 miles, it looks like we're going to get where we're going after all. Which is good because Cheeseburg is a good rockin' town and I'd hate to miss it because of a faulty GPS system. So that's all I got for now. Once again, If you'd like to keep updated in a more timely fashion check out my wife's blog here - http://europeforthree.blogspot.com/ - as she's been a blinding blur of bloggermania...
Cheer's from Cheeseburg!

Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Den Haag, Nederlands
sound check
Tonight they rock the SuperMarkt.
So we rolled out of the tenderloin bright and early this morning and pull into Den Haag about 2 p.m. Unfortunately our bad luck follows and "Geeps" craps the bed. As soon as we pull into our first turn off the highway, he just loses signal, starts pointing in 12 different directions and that's that. We're lost. A great town to be lost in though, the streets are small and windy, there's about a hundred people on super cute dutch bikes, a canal full of lily pads and row boats, it's like a Meg Ryan movie!
It was almost easy not to be frustrated, after leaving the crotch of Cheeseburg, tooling around the streets of cutie pie Den Haag was alright with me. Eddie on the other hand, finds it hard not to get totally pissed when Geeps takes off. Men. I'm guessing he just gets mad because he then has to get out and go ask for directions. Which no man likes to do, and when you are up against the Dutch, well if you've heard the Dutch, you'd know, it's not easy. So many vowels!
Anyway, I told him to keep his pants on and we then found the place, Hotel Centrum. My hero! It is beautiful, giant white leather couches, a master bedroom with a balcony- a place to rest (with both eyes shut).
So that's what I did. I laid on the bed, took my shoes off and fell fast asleep. Eddie and Q went wondering about to find some food, after my nap I was greeted with lunch and we then took a stroll to find the club and that is where I sit.
In fact the Pace Shifters have just gone on and I am going to go check 'em out. They are getting better every night- if you don't know them, go to paceshifters.com. You will not be sorry.
June 17, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Loving it!
I just noticed there are like almost 2400 views on this thing, we've only been here a week! I love it, thank you- this is totally fun, something we will have forever too. Like a diary I can't loose.
Keep reading, post the link and come out to these shows.
Oh and, the Pace Shifter boys share the stage with Eddie on the last 3 or 4 songs each night, he is doing his usual awesome, one man show-show.
We're alive!!!
It's was rough, I'm not going to lie.
3 or 4 times I heard someone walking down the hall and I was prepared to jump up, jammies and all and battle the one that tried to break into our room. But it was all in my head. There was no drama, no one wiggled out doorknob, no one knocked asking for strange items, like I imagined most of the night.
Around 5 a.m. I woke up to construction. Forgetting where I was I was wondering "what about the noise ordinance?". Silly me.
So I laid around, packed some stuff and then at about 6:30 I found my sister on Skype, so that was nice. My talking woke Eddie (oops) who jumped up and was ready to get the show on the road too.
Q is still fast asleep as I type, it's about 7:45 a.m. now.
E and I walked down the hall to have breakfast, which was really bleak. It's so not European of them too, breakfast is usually the best part of your stay- I mean, not a a hovel but at the hotels, Europeans do it up right. You won't find a lonely bowl of Froot Loops, it's all usually very serious foods. Alas, this morning it was bad "koffee" and stale bread. I can only assume they got it from the soup kitchen they must run from 4-7 p.m.
Tonight we rock Den Haag which you will find snuggled in the Netherlands. I'm looking forward to it, as it is the home country of our lovely Pace Shifter boys. who Eddie will share the stage with just three more nights. We will miss them along with Frank and Mom, who are the sweetest people you will find. So if you are at the show, come over to the merch booth and say "hi" buy something and keep the dream a live people... I'm just glad I made it through Pension- Kieler Hof alive.
Danke vielmals!
JD
Rawkusly yours from Cheeseburger
Well tonight they showed up and they loved it. They were a fabulous crowd and Q and the Pace Shifter boys had a great time running around, burning off some steam.
We walked the water front after dinner, it looked a bit like we could have been in Seattle, it was nice. We are definitely on the wrong side of the tracks where I sit now.
We are back at our "hotel" and it's about the only time I wish I was still at the smokey club. Ugh, do these people like to smoke. They like smokes with their smokes... kids- just say no to smoking. It is disgusting.
Anyway, the street here is loud. I feel weary of our ability to sleep tonight. The guy down the hall has his TV on so loud Eddie wants me to wake him up if I go use the bathroom- I suggested his TV is loud so no one can hear you scream... We are setting the alarm for extra early, how's 7 a.m. strike ya (it's like 1:30 a.m. now) because this place is sure to set us up for a rough day if we stick around in the morning. I figure we get up and scram and pretend like it never happened. We are in the tenderloin of tenderloins, I feel dirty. I figure I spent enough years roughing it to know when I am too "good" for this stuff and it is now.
At the club tonight I booked us two nights in a rather pricey hotel in Heidelberg for the weekend. We have a day off and it will be spent getting back on track, I'm trying not to obsess, you can see how well that's going for me.
I wish I had more to say, I'd stay up all night typing. I feel like someone needs to watch these boys sleep. Oh I'm (half) kidding Mom, it's not that bad... it's not that good either but I will be sure to log on in about 5 hours so you know we are all still alive.
Good night, sleep, um, with one eye open.

Hostels
I'm spoiled.
There I said it. I am damn spoiled.
I'm trying to get back to my roots here people, or I'm forced to. I did not grow up rich and I'm not rich now but let's just say I want for nothin' these days and this place is hard for me to wrap my head around. And it isn't bad, it's nicer than many of my apartments have been (Heidi, remember the attic?). We just checked into the Pension-Keiler Hof (I wonder if that has anything to do with the Hasselhof?) and Q and I had to use the loo immediately, so we walked up two flights of stairs (yes with all our bags, we're tough), we walk into the room and start scratching our heads. Where is it? There are three beds (one for each of us, JUST KIDDING!) and an Ikea style closet and what's that big white box thing? A toilet? No, it's a shower. Straight in the middle of the wall, to the right a sink and not a toilet to be seen... boo. It's down the hall. I'm going to go ahead and use the pregnancy card and say this sucks because I use the thing about 45 times during the night but really, I'm just spoiled.
But not that spoiled. Eddie said "we can move htls" (which is what I LOVE about that man, "happy wife, happy life" really is his motto) but it's cool. We have a good thing going, we can skip the room service and wake up calls for a night, not because I want to but because MY motto is "it's okay to be spoiled but it's not okay to act spoiled".
June 16, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Supersucker fans.
There it is again, the chatter on the msg board about little ol' me. I think it is true that all press is good press but I wanted to say "thank you" to my sweet friends on there. You know who you are. It really doesn't affect us to read the BS though, I mean we are traveling through Europe, what do I have to complain about? Some faceless punk? Ha! He should keep it up because the more people that read the msg. board will read my blog and that is fun for me. I am not writing it so no one will read it. Win. Win. And yes I do read the bands msg board still, all of it. I just can't log on, I'm on Eddie's computer over here and I can't remember my login info. But this is a machine we are running, this is it it's not a side job, it's a lifestyle- the whole thing. I do whatever I can to keep this thing of ours going. I don't want to give up my position in life as a stay- at- home- or- anywhere- in- the- world Mom. I've got it real good and I am fully aware of that and so is Eddie. We are the lucky ones and we know that. Eddie's letter to the fans and all of the correspondence any of us do as a family will no doubt relate somehow to the band. I will "whore" this thing out until the end sweet pea.
It is unfortunate I guess about the baby stuff but really on this end, it is what it is. Once you are "out there" (and who isn't these days) you are available for cheap shots. But I do respect my fellow SS fans that take it upon themselves to defend the honor of the unborn. I'm not too worried about what it is my children will do with their lives when they grow up, I'm not even worried about what kids (or their parents) think about their names, playground or no playground. And if they grow up to be doctors or lawyers or street sweepers, my job is to make sure they learn to not take too seriously all the faceless punks that will follow them in their life, because it'll happen. She's got about 3 more months in the womb still and already a fan base. Do I think that's a plus for her? Not neccessarily but like I said, it is what it is. Our life.
Thank you!
Sitting backstage, after a day of walking, coffee drinking and just really loving life here in the streets of Germany. We are now getting reconnected with our friends who spent their day off back in Switzerland.
Quattro is on the guitar again, he, Eddie and Seb are having themselves a little jam.
Tomorrow we head to Cheeseburg, which is a fantastic place, the name is actually Hamburg but that isn't as much fun to say now is it.
It's show time now and I must go watch the Pace Shifters- check them out paceshifters.com (aka "Hot Cheese")
JD
Stuttgart, day 2
We woke up early to get in on the breakfast action downstairs, which was a bit of a mistake cause it kinda sucked. Oh well, you can't win 'em all.
And then the rain came. My prediction was that it burn off by the afternoon, so we all decided to go back upstairs, get into bed and read- what a thought. To just sit around and read together. It was perfect.
I am reading "My Sister's Keeper" by Jodi Picoult, Q's on Harry Potters "The Deathly Hallows" and E is reading "The Corner" by David Simon and Edward Burns- creator of the Wire. At some point I decided to put the book down and take a nap, then Q and Eddie followed suit. All jammed in the same bed, one by one waking up to get the blood flowin'.
I hear Eddie out on the balcony changing his strings, which he broke two of during the show in Zurich (and he didn't stop the show, how does he do it??). He looks nice out there, my meterolgy skills proving to be correct, the sun is shining and it's looking perfect outside.
Quattro joins him, to watch and learn. He is really into the guitar lately, having spent the last few months on the drums at home, he switches back and forth every few. He's got the bug and the gift, a dream combo for him and a Mother's fear. He too will most likely be in a band.
It's not that I think it isn't a good life. It is, I mean, I chose it too in a way- or did it choose me? Well, it chose Eddie for sure, he couldn't avoid it if he tried (which he didn't, not even for a second). But it's hard. I've seen the good, the bad and the ugly and if you haven't lived on the road- you really have no idea. It can take a great/talented person and change them. It will chew you up and spit you out, several times over. It will steal the best of you, whether you are famous for what you do or not. It's a lifestlye that doesn't fit too many. It's not always glamorous if you are touring arenas to 15,000 people or when you are hitting the dive curcut to 300. It's good livin' sure but it's hard. I guess that's why I like to bring the family out, I want to show him, if you're going to do it, "do it this way". Not that I think we are perfect but Eddie and I- we have done nothing if not perfect the family tour. We have discovered there's more to it if you are willing to move outside the box. If you can fly your middle finger to all the nay-sayers, there's really a good way to live this life, it comes with it's challenges but what doesn't? Figuring out who's going to pick up the kids after baseball when you are both working late has got to be a struggle but if you want to, you find a way to make it all work out. We waded through all the shit too. The getting kicked off tour (during the Baggins and Fisher "no wives on tour!!") tour, which I had traveled all the way to Paris for, 7 1/2 months pregnant with Q. We had a harder road than we would have if I would have stayed home, the way all the chicks did back then but then again, I wouldn't be writing you this blog either. If I didn't come out for the last 10 years, if we didn't stick our necks out and blaze a new trail for ourselves, we wouldn't have made it and that is a fact.
Wow, where did that come from? Damn hormones.
So that is where they are. On the balcony, learning songs now. Q wonders when it is going to stop hurting his fingers, if you have never seen Eddie's fingers, they are round little pods, callusted over from what we figure to be 28 years of playing.
And now we roam. Hopefully "Geeps" will get his act together. Last night, leaving the restaurant at 11 p.m. we get in to the car to a "no signal" sign. We were just singing his praises on the way to dinner too. Saying the extra 15 Euro's a day was worth it (22 days, you do the math, yikes!) but then he just crapped out on us. We were thinking he'd get it together but he didn't, we had to navigate ourselves with no real map (just a very german tourist map from the front desk, I'm glad I picked that up on our way out, I was actually thinking about going to the zoo and then I remember how depressing they are to me- like birds in a cage). We made it though. With Eddie's guessing and my instinct to follow the tracks, we ended up right where we were supposed to be. Go figure. See I told you we're really good at this.
June 15, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Stuttfart, Germany
And we're back. Back in Germany that is.
Short drive today, I didn't even have time to get tired of driving. I will go ahead and enjoy that.
So I was thinking about our animals today, I hope they are all doing well. Monkee is no doubt in all of her glory with the Hoopers, they are really good people and if I had to pick God parents for her, they'd be it.
It's rainy and muggy and there's no damn internet at this htl, don't you know we are going to be here two days. The front desk lady is very German about the whole thing saying there will be no internet while we are here- just like that, no internet. Ugh.
Quattro has taken to buying German comic books, he can't read them of course but funny translates I guess. He was sitting in the back seat cracking up
Zurich, Switzerland
German is one of those languages that no matter how slow they say something, or how good the hand gesture- I have no idea what they are saying. It is indecipherable and that, to me, just makes things all the more interesting. It is pretty cool to be "all alone" in such a huge land. We will spend most of the first part of the tour in Germany- but today, we are in Switzerland.
Oh Switzerland... I could live here.
We get up yesterday in Dusseldorf, Germany which for some reason totally reminded me of Prague. Prague is like a movie set, everything looks fake. We drove about 6-7 hours to make it to Zurich, I was behind the wheel most of the way until I was hit by the inevitable jet lag. It is like a sneak attack almost, I'm driving things are fine and then all of the sudden if I don't close my eyes, I feel as if I will just drop dead. Jet lag is funny that way, when you travel this far, it lasts a good 4-5 days, sneaking up on you at odd times to make you feel a little bit crazy.
I gotta go now, we are getting the boot out of this htl. But first let me say, the Coronado rocks! If you are ever in Zurich, stay here. It looks like a dump from the outside, but we are on the top floor, it's an A frame style room with giant sliding doors on the ceiling/wall that reveal a very huge window that overlook a park and train tracks- which by the way, goes by so often you hardly notice it. The bathroom is all glass, frosted so no one can see you shower but glass all the same. After Eddie and I showered, Q got in and I found a switch next to the bed that turned on this awesome blue light that ran up and down the glass walls of the shower- a shower for Q to remember. I asked him if I could take a picture... you'll know the answer when you scroll down and don't see it.
We were promptly given the boot at 12. Well, they started calling at 11 and then again at 11:30, the lady said to E on the phone "I have told you already about checking out at noon, right?"... we walked out of the room at 11:59- Daly style.
So what to do? We have the day off, tomorrow's show is back in Germany, Stuttgart to be exact, so we walk. Well, we drive back through the tunnel to the city center. It's magical here- if magic to you is primo shopping district. I could be here a month and probably not go into every store. The one good thing about this particular tour? I won't spend all of my earnings (yes, I'm getting paid) on clothes... I'm 7 months pregnant and I'm only getting bigger by the day. I think I'll only buy if I actually grow out of something along the way- but this place, this place has the good eats too.
Last night our very gracious hosts told us about a place, "Johanniter" and that is where I sit as I type up the last half of this blog. First part was in bed this morning in my 10 minutes before I had to get out of it, they wanted 57 Swiss Francs for us to stay later, ouch!
The food was delicious. I had a ham and cheese on crusty bread and a califlower soup. Homemade and totally what the baby ordered. Eddie had this crazy chicken cordon blue, but it was with pork (we think) pomme frites of course, they come with everything. And then there's Q.... he was saying he wanted a hamburger, I told him "when in Rome..." so when he got the menu he was happy to through back in my face that in "Rome" or Zurich, they too have hamburgers on the kids menu. The little girl next to us was eating a hot dog... so the similarities are there for sure. The kids are universal eaters of "kid food". I was fine with it, ordering off the adult menu would have cost three times as much, the Swiss ain't cheap.
Oh, I forgot to tell you about last night! So we show up, straight off the highway, tired, hot- it was their hottest day yesterday, 32 I think (celcius of course) which you do something like times by 1.8 and add something else. I know that 25 is god, 30+ is warm/hot and 16 is perfect for sleeping. It's the little things you have to learn when you are a broad- temps are good for when you are setting the thermostat in your room and how to order some coffee. WHich I have been drinking WAY too much of, I guess I'm hoping for a low birth weight. I'm totally kidding... well, mostly.
Q and I knock on the door of the Kontiki Club. It's located on this adorable street. Brick walking streets, lined with restaurants with tons of outside tables. There are so many, they all blend together, you can't really tell where one place starts or stops. I love it, this is my thing, if I were not pregnant I would be sitting down immediately and ordering a bottle of wine while E and Q unload the merch and guitar... alas, I am with child. I'm not against wine while holding, I am sharing a glass with Eddie right now actually but you know, the other me... bottle of wine, I don't mess with the glass.
I'd like to thank Danny right now for cooking us this fabulous BBQ. Not only were we on a rooftop, in Switzerland with a giant church directly in front of us, we were welcomed by people that at home they'd totally be our friends. Just really cool, down to earth people, covered in tattoos. I felt immediately like we were in a good place.
I'm forgetting the name of our hosts right now, I'd probably butcher the hell out of them anyway, I would tell you all about the dog bite but now I feel bad because the owner (who was really, really nice and good to all of us), I heard she didn't come to the show because she felt so bad. I'm so bummed, I wish I could tell her (hey, maybe she's reading!) that there are no hard feelings. This stuff happens, so real quick I will only say Q still thinks your dog is really cute, sure, we call him "Kujo" now but half in part because we can't remember his name either.
The show was lightly attended, but it didn't sound like it. I was in the backstage most of the evening, feeling very comfortable in a backstage on the nights that they are super nice, I take advantage. But every cheer, you'd think there were a couple hundred people, which is great and sometimes it's nicer to have a small crowd who are really into it, than 300 people who are so out of it wasted. Listen to me, I sound like an old person. But I'm not, I'm all of a night of dibaughtchery but this is a family tour, so that's where my head is at.
And what a great time it's been so far. We are 5 days in, 16 to go and we are really just taking it all in. Getting to roam around today really made it feel complete,
Our fellow road dogs, the Pace Shifters and family just walked up, they too are getting their roam on. They read my last blog, didn't love that I called them babies but I'm sticking to it. They should enjoy it, I too am the baby in my crowd, it's good, it beats the alternative.
It's time for me to shove off, Eddie just spotted a sign for "Hooters", so that means it is time for a change of scenery. Last night we noticed a McDonald's right in the middle of that cute walking street with all the restaurants- there's just something about it. It really takes the majesty out of it all. I boo it. I mean, I've eaten it, but over here- I boo it. In France, now that's a McDonald's I can somehow get behind, they have the good "moutarde". France has some great food but when you are on tour, sometimes there's only time for fast food.
Hasselhoff
I'm not sure why the Germans love David Hasselhof, it's something you don't think about at home to much but over here you do. It's strange and that is all I have to say about that.
We are back on the ol' Autobahn, Eddie was released to the drivers seat about 4 minutes ago and I am taking a much needed break. We left at 11 a.m. and it's 4:30 now, I drove straight through and I'm now cross-eyed.
I was going about 90 and suddenly our car shook and there was this loud growling noise, no it was not my stomach. We were being passed or blown away by a car that must have been going 200 mph. I am not kidding. It made Eddie feel like he peed a little, it was insane. As Gloria would say "Peace be with you".
Geeps says we have about 60 miles left which seems impossible since we have been driving forever but we did hit another jam up, this time it was construction, 4 miles 45 minutes. Ugh.
Well that was tedious. I know I can be a bit of a back seat driver but he's awful. No wonder Thunder never lets him drive. Ha ha, sorry E but driving is not your forte.
We are here though, we made it safely to Hotel Flora in Dusseldorf, heading out now to the club to eat dinner.
JD
This sucks!
There has been no internet for the last little bit. Rest assured, I am bloggin' my butt off.
Eddie, Q and I are in Stuttfarts city center where we just ate some yummy dinners and now we are enjoying the quiet evening, Eddie with a Stuttgarter hofbrau and Q with some banane eis- me, I'm just enjoying a full belly and a baby breakdancing in it. Tonight we chill, tomorrow we roam and rock, that's what it's all about (clap, clap).
June 14, 2009 Hallo from the Eddie Spaghetti European Family Holiday Tour
So, we've arrived and after a super long travel day (How's 31 hours, tip to tail, grab ya?), we've finally had a really long sleep (10 hours, yay!) and we're toolin' down the Autobahn (doin' a cool 90 mph!) toward the first show in Berlin tonight. JD at the wheel, Quattro in the back seat playing his Nintendo DS and me, doing some assisted navigating with a little help from our good friend, the GPS system who we call "Geeps". Geeps has been a real help so far, he almost got us right to the hotel we had booked for last night, just one wrong turn away is all, so, not bad. Not bad at all. Right now he's telling us we have about 260 more miles to go until our next maneuver so I thought I'd grab a moment to update you all on our whereabouts. In fact if you really want to stay in touch with what the Spaghetti Family is up to then you should check out the lovely Ms. JD's tour blog as she is much more likely to keep up on it than I am. You can check that out here - http://europeforthree.blogspot.com/ - she hopes to update it almost everyday, so keep checking it out, she has a way with the words (and she's pretty too!).
Well, I'm looking forward to tonight's show. We had some killer t-shirts made up for this trip, design courtesy of our friend Tim Gabor and printed up by our good buddy at Hot Leathers, Andy George and we're hoping to sell a butt load of 'em. (That gas ain't cheap over here. We just paid a Euro and 33 cents a liter for the stuff! Our first fill up cost us 60 Euros. Ugh.) So we gotta move that merch! Quattro's really looking forward to having a job at the shows, so that should help. He's a good salesman too - every summer he has a lemonade stand during our annual garage sale and he usually makes more money than we do!
We just pulled it over and JD got a coffee from an automatic machine and it's actually quite good. Why don't they have decent coffee machines in the states? It's all hot brown water if you get one from a gas station machine at home, but here, they got the good gourmet stuff in 'em. Quattro got a German comic book that he can't read a lick of (yet - that kid's pretty smart. He may just figure out how to speak German before this trip is all over!). He said, "I like German comics, they're funny." Glad someone thinks the Germans are funny, it's not one of their better known traits.
So, the battery's going dead on my computer here in the car on the ol' Autobahn, so I'll finish this update after tonight's show.
Show was awesome. Great turn out, good Germans, nice club. The planets really lined up for this one. The Paceshifters were great and we actually moved some merch... So all's well on the Western Front! I'm gonna send this message off to get it to you all... I'll write more soon, I promise. It's late here and I'm wiped out.
June 13, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Dusseldorf.
Show number two. Done. Yay!
So tonight was decidedly more mellow than last night but you know, it just isn't Berlin so what do you expect. I have to say though, it was pretty damn fun. We were once again met outside by the promoter, Jan was super nice and gave us all the in's and out's of the night, which is more than I can say for our booking agent, but let's not ruin it.
It was fun. Their cheering reminded me of a soccer game. Like somoene kicks a goal and "YYYAAAAAAHHHHHHYYYYYY" and then- silence. I hear it is like that in Japan too.
Anyway, it was "Japanese Day" today and they were having this crazy celebration. Fireworks, street vendors, crazy costume wearing freak-a-zoids and I'd guess about a 150,000 people walking the tiny streets of Dusseldorf's city center. It was madness. We tried to take a photo of it all when we were pulling out but you couldn't really capture that amount of insanity. All we could do was sit in the car and laugh, we were stopped by the swarms of people. Finally I started to just creep through but it was hilarious. And then there was the train- full of people, I mean "sardine can" doesn't even come close to what this was. It was every man for himself, at least 200 people in one train car- hysterical.
Alright, I'm being called for bed now. It is like 1:50 a.m. and homegirl needs to hit the sack. We are off to Switzerland tomorrow which brings a long drive but a really happy family. We spent my first Mother's Day there when Q was just like 5 months old, it was rad, we rode a pedal boat in this amazingly blue lake, ate delicious food... we are going for round two- and what's that? It's almost Father's Day? It must be fate.
June 12, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Berlin
Here we are, first morning after the first show and I gotta say, this is going to rock.
The whole thing, major traffic jam included.
We left Duisburg (sounds like Dweezeburg) yesterday around 1 p.m. 300 miles to go. We hit the Autobahn and everything is looking great. I'm driving (remember we decided I was better at that, E better at the navigating- although we have "Geeps" which is our trusty GPS, to assist).
We go 100 miles in like an hour. We are keeping up with the Germans, well almost. They aren't kidding over here with the driving. Along the way we weren't cut off more than twice, no one flipped us off and not one honk (except for mine, hey I'm American!). And then the brake lights.
It was no regular jam up, this was what one can only describe as an international cluster f#*@k, (sorry, I gotta keep it semi clean, their are kids reading "hi kids"!). With the help of Geeps' calculations, we went about 19 miles in 4 hours... at the end we were glad we didn't see the carnage, we saw the tire marks... that was enough. And we couldn't bitch too much, those on the other end... I was just glad to be where I was, manual transmission and everything.
9 p.m. we roll into club SO36 where we were welcomed at the curb, first class I tell ya, first class. We missed dinner but I want to shout out right now that even at 1 a.m. that food was delish! Totally rad and very much what we needed after the first nights dinner (remember the liverwurst? not always the best idea after a 31 hour travel day). Our friends the Paceshifters opened up the show, these guys aren't only really awesome to watch but they are really good- and adorable! They look like babies (which they will hate me saying) but are old enough to drink, which is weird to see- have you ever seen a baby with a beer? Ha ha...
They played some great songs, which I will know the name of after a few more shows and a few more hours of sleep. Last night was not only hot, there were only mesh curtains, so I was up with the sun, which seemed to be about a hour after I went to bed.
Eddie went on at like 11 I guess, to a very big crowd of enthusiastic people who knew almost every word. It is amazing still to travel this far, to a country where they speak a different language and still somehow they are connected to him. I love, it's a little bit of magic.
Quattro manned the merch booth the entire night doing a stellar job with the Germans. The ladies loved him and he sold that merch like Chris Neal, who in fact, taught him everything he knows. We miss you Chris, but rest assured the merch is getting taken care of by little man.
And I, well I just took it all in. The 31 hours of travel, I relished the fact that we did it, we made it and we are living the life that we planned from day one. It's nice and rare I think, time has a way of changing things and people. It's nice to reflect on an idea that we had 10 years ago and see it realized, I guess I'm just breathing a sigh of relief here- sorry, that wasn't funny or witty, it was sappy and sentimental... I'll try to reign it in people.
And we're out. Eddie is staring at me, thinking "why on earth isn't she ready yet?" and I think I am. I'm ready, to drive directly back where we came from yesterday, all 300+ miles to Dusseldorf, Germany. That's how it goes on tour, back and forth, back and forth. Enjoy the ride.
June 11, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. London
We arrived in London after a very short flight from Amsterdam. We are beat.
Getting out of the airport was easy, with one small mini heart attack about the guitar. Of course all our bags were there except the guitar... it's always somewhere else. I'm not sure if maybe the baggage handlers like to take it out and play it for a minute or what happens, but we always wait for the guitar.
So there it is and we are set. Or are we?
Head to the Avis counter, which is of course a bus ride away. We are pretty organized though. I've had the rental booked for weeks, so I'm assuming there are going to be problems. This is not my first rodeo. Little did I know we were going to walk out of there a couple hundred pounds lighter due to unforeseen complications. Read "BS" at the Avis counter.
They tacked on all kinds of stuff, charges for going out of the UK, charges for "extra" insurance to take it out of the UK and evidently our GPS needed to be more expensive too- "whatever" we think, let's just get out of here. We know we have to get going, there's a learning curve we are up against, it's been a while since either of us have driven on the wrong side of the car, not to mention the wrong side of the road so we know we are rusty- have to make to Dover by 3 to catch that ferry Things are looking tight.
"Um, what is that?"
Oh, that would be a stick. We got ourselves a manual transmission here people and guess what? It's on the left!
I can work a manual, I was one of those that said I would never want an automatic because I thought they were for lazy people- then I moved to a real city and got my first automatic, never looking back.
So yeah, shifting with the left hand, sitting on the right side, driving on the left (but only in England)... this is an adventure after all, our stars aligned and left nothing out.
We made the ferry. Eddie carries our tiny passenger (see pic) to the main deck, I suss out a good seat and we relax, my vision is starting to get blurry... I'm guessing we're up for 18 hours, Elvis is moving around constantly so I am resting easy, we did it. Well the "hard" part.
Pulling into France, I decided to drive. I don't need to practice, I take us right off the boat and straight to Belguim... don't forget to call Mom. Done. Yes, while driving- sorry Mom.
We just drove through a rainbow. It was a pretty awesome sight weather was dodgy, hard rain, then nothing- we all spot the rainbow and just like that it appears in the road and we actually watched ourselves drive through it. Eddie says "well that must be a good sign". He's not really into signs but if that wasn't one, neither am I.
Stopped for ice cream and saw a couple of roosters in the parking lot. Strange somehow but not too much since it does look a lot like Wyoming or something out here. Minus all the foreign language signs. Paid for our coffees and Q's Chocomel (Cecemel in the Belg. speak) and saw a kitty in the window. The lady said she sits there a lot, Q wanted to feed her but I think once you feed a stray they stop hunting for themselves... side note, sorry.
I believe we made it to Germany when I decided I had had enough. My feet are swollen and my brain is squirrely, I need to sleep, we have 90 miles until Duisburg, which is where the wicked rest tonight.
We're here. The GPS got us pretty close to the htl, those things are handy but we could have bought on for the price of the rental and this one doesn't even speak to you like the others- well maybe it does and we haven't figured it out yet. Last time ours was speaking french and we could not get it to shut up, so we welcome the silence. Speaking of silence, that is what we are going to do now, be silent and sleep. It's been 26 hours.
Not so much I forgot there was a kid and pregnant gal on this trip. We need food!
Checked into the Etap, not the finest of htls but a place to rest our heads for sure. You check yourself in, no desk clerk at night, so we were on our own for food
Eddie drove around a bit then we decided he was the navigator and I was the (better) driver. We ended up with crackers, cheese and liverwurst- favorites of all of our, so it was okay. We got a bottle of "Munsterland" Bananenmelk, it is delicious. Not our usually dinner time grub but it is the 27th hour and as long as we aren't laying down to the sound of growling stomachs- we're good.
Dudes are in the shower, we had to pry Q away from Ki.Ka. It's a German cartoon of a piece of tofu, I'm not kidding. He has no legs and giant hands and Quattro thinks he is hilarious, I'm just glad he thinks Germans are funny.
June 10, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. Amsterdam
So here we are, sitting at the airport in Amsterdam. We just flew about 9 hours and have an hour or so until we get on the flight to London.
It was uneventful, which is what you want in a flight. I can't say as much for the day before.
Quattro got totally sick on his last day of school, which had us heading for the doctors office less than 20 hours before we were set to take off. High fever, barf, the whole bit... it was ugly. But then around 11 p.m. he woke up, saw a commercial for "Trix" cereal and said he was hungry (Eddie went and bought the Trix, and why not- Trix are for kids, points for Eddie). So the trip was back n as scheduled, there was no barf, only a slight fever midway through, which lead to a 3 hour nap for him.
Right now we are drinking some coffee, tea and hot chocolate at a cafe. I'm typing (sorry if it isn't interesting yet, I'm exhausted) and Q and E are counting their Euros, which Q had our driver let him out before we left the house, so he could run in and grab his piggy bank full of foreign currency which he collected on his last tour of Europe- that kid is always thinking. He just told me "see we are doing math class right now" and I gotta say he's right. I give him props, I used my credit card to buy a magazine because I didn't want to find the right change... we all have our ways of staying in touch with math. Currently mine was trying to figure out how many glasses of water I had on the 9 hour flight and then just for fun, I tried to count up how many times I used the loo... a lot.
June 6, 2009 Spaghetti Family European Holiday Tour. 6 countries, 21 days, 16 shows, 1 rad kid, 1 guitar holding man and a pregnant girl. Adventure awaits.
We are about to set off. Four days and counting (and three days until Eddie gets home). We are chomping at the bit to get out of here. I have cabin fever really, really bad.
This year has been exceptional, some changes have been made that are not only life changing for all of us, but really I think they are impeccably timed... such as life for the Daly's.
So this blog will be updated nightly (I hope). We have quite the journey ahead of us, one very similar adventure was taken when Q was 4 months old. We set out to do 5 weeks, something like 15 countries in the little van that could. That trip had a couple of friends with us and this time it'll just be us. Yay!
We showed Q from the very beginning how things were going to be- he was not to change us, but we were going to change him, morph him, if you will. I think it worked out, he is highly adventurous, knows no limits when it comes to fun, travel and his imagination. He's a product of growing up on tour- and this blog will be an extension to that, minus the debauchery. Mama's pregnant.
Enjoy,
JD & the boys
(which in three months will change... "JD, Elvis and the boys"?)
Hey there folks! Just a quick note here to tell you good People of Impeccable Taste about a special night coming up in Atlanta. That's right, this Monday finds the good ol' Eddie Spaghetti show rolling into the ATL for an evening of solo acoustic action at a place called the Gravity Pub. And when I say "action" I mean it - this show will feature a very special guest appearance by Atlanta's own Ruyter Suys of Nashville Pussy fame. Yep, the lovely and talented Ms. Suys will bring her axe slinging skills to the stage to help me out in what I'm sure will be a memorable event for all in attendance and I'm really looking forward to it!
I'll be coming into Hotlanta after our last Supersuckers show of this tour in Chicago on Sunday (at the Abbey!) and then I fly home to Seattle on Tuesday to do my laundry and pick up the family for our trip to Europe on Wednesday. So, yeah, I'm a little bit busy right now but hey, sure beats floppin' Whoppers for a living (which is about the only other job I could get at this point in my unskilled laborer life). Not that there's anything wrong with floppin' Whoppers for a living, if that's what you happen to do, you're still lucky to have any kind of job these days.
We're out here on the road, feeling the full weight of this economic depression but we're still bringing the quality rock shows to the people who are in need of one. So if that's you, if you're feeling the crunch of not having been properly rocked for too long now, then make a point of getting out to one of our shows. It's putting your ever-shrinking entertainment dollars to good use and we guarantee you'll feel better about life after the experience.
So come on out and get some Awesome in your life, you'll be glad you did!
-Eddie Spaghetti, June 5th, 2009, somewhere on the road...
May 23, 2009 Greetings from the East Coast of the good ol' U.S. of A.!
Greetings from the East Coast of the good ol' U.S. of A.! It's durn good to be back in the states again where we speak the lingo and know where to go to eat - no more guessing at the menu, for a spell anyway! I say for a spell because I'm actually getting ready to head back over there for the Eddie Spaghetti European Family Holiday Tour 2009. That's right, I'm packing up the increasingly pregnant wife and my 8 year old boy and we're heading over the pond once again for some solo dates and we can't wait! We're really looking forward to spending the first part of this summer together, road-tripping it through Europe, stopping where ever we like, seeing whatever we want to see and doing some great shows in between.
But first things first - we must finish our current tour, which is chugging along quite nicely. We're doing a version of the Big Show on this run, which means that we're doing some country as well as rocking the house down to the ground each and every night. So make sure you come out and see us if we're close to where you're at. It's going to be well worth your time.
We recently were in England for a festival date where we shared the stage with none other than American rock icons, X, who were AMAZING as per usual, cramming their extensive history into a blistering 45 minute set was no small feat but they did it with style. Here's a phone-photo of me and John Doe after the show -
He's still looking good!
Also on the bill were the Breeders, who were awesome as well, and we had the pleasure of having the wonderful Ms. Kelley Deal join us onstage for a rousing rendition of "Hungover Together", which she totally nailed. Here's a picture of my lovely wife and Kelley's twin sister, Kim Deal from backstage after we played.
And speaking of my lovely wife, she's currently incubating our second child, which is also coming along quite nicely. A little too nicely really, our little bundle of joy is measuring about 5 weeks bigger than she should be, so she's going to be a whopper. We may have to have her out of there before our September 9th due date if she keeps up this kind of growing! Oh, and have I mentioned that it's going to be a girl? Yep a (not so) little girl is coming into the Spaghetti household and we're glad, damn glad! Here's a picture of her cute little profile while still in my wife's ever growing belly -
So that's what's been going on around here. I hope to see you all out here on the road real soon. The shows have never been better, so I recommend you come out and see one. All right? All right!
May 18, 2009 An open letter to Mase @ The Flight Test
On May 11th this fella from a radio station in South Carolina, WKZQ felt the need to address his ENTIRE mailing list with the following critique of Supersucker behavior. I've posted his letter and then my response follows. You be the judge.
Good Morning,
It's a sad day in the Mase's radio world. No...it's nothing like someone got fired or died...but I hate to say I found out in the last two days that one of my FAVORITE bands turned out to be full of assholes.
As many of you know I am/was a HUGE fan/supporter of The Supersuckers. Well that all changed in the past two days. Without getting into to much detail they played here in Myrtle Beach for a Surfrider Benefit and acted like they were (Fill in cocky rockstar who has no reason to be here) and then my afternoon guy Jersey booked them for a show in Charleston last night with his band Hand Grenade and they not only got cut off after 5 songs because "the band" needed to be on stage by 11:30 (this is after a VERY long sound check and the other 2 openers getting to play their full set) but also after helping the band unload their gear and merch (yes the guitarist whistled at them and said..."c'mon...are you going to help or what".
I know everyone has that story of how their favorite band turned out to be dicks...but at least these bands are big enough to...well I don't want to say have the right...but at least have some cred to back it up. So...as far as the Suckers getting anymore airplay in this town...forget it. I was the only guy at the only station here that played them anyway. Maybe they don't need the help and if that is the case...good for them. But, I seem to doubt that is the case since they had to call us to help them book a show when they were in the area.
Ok...enough of my bitchin...here is last nights show.

A response from Eddie Spaghetti -
So, when I first read this letter I was upset, a little bit hurt and very confused. Then I decided to write back. First of all, how dare you say the things you said to your entire list, you spineless fool. You have no idea what we go through on a daily basis to bring the people of each and every town we play in a quality rock show and a positive experience all the way around and to see our good name besmirched in such a sweeping, generalized way really pisses me off. If we have a bad day, and trust me, when you spend the better part of 200 days a year on the road, you're gonna have a couple, do we deserve to be called out to an entire list of people about it? How would you like it if the roles were reversed? "Oh, I used to like that guy Mase until some un-perceptible little slight got me going on what an asshole I think he is..."
I have no idea what we did to you in Myrtle Beach. I have no recollection of any negative encounters whatsoever from that show. Everyone I talked to, and apparently you weren't one of them, was nice, friendly and pleasant beyond belief. It was frankly one of the nicer towns we've been to, personality-wise. Sure, there were some drunk, rowdy fans at the show, but it wouldn't be a Supersuckers show if there weren't, now would it? So I'm left wondering what the big asshole move was on our part. Was it our drummer throwing the M&M's out of the dressing room after finding an unwanted brown one in the mix? Did we hawk a loogie on your girlfriend? What is it that we did that was so bad? Was it the fact that we woke up that morning in Austin, Texas at 5:30 am, got on a flight to Charleston and then drove ourselves in our oh so luxurious Ford Econoline Van the two plus hours up to Myrtle Beach to play the show that night? I wonder...
As for the Charleston show. First of all, WE weren't the ones who put no less than three opening acts on the bill that night. And WE weren't the ones who were two hours late for soundcheck - that was the house sound guy. WE were on time for our load in and were ready to sound check in a timely fashion as we are most always ready to do. As for Hand Grenade getting their set cut short, WE had very little to do with that as well. We were told to be ready to play at 11:30, which we were. We had an extremely long drive ahead of us and, as anxious as we were to get on the stage, we understand that this is rock-n-roll and it doesn't always go on time. When we showed up, the promoter took it upon herself to tell your boys to cut it short. We were totally unaware that they had just started as they were playing when we showed up at the club. They were pretty good, by the way. I liked their song about the Boogie Man - "Thank god for the Boogie Man. He put the boogie right into my hand!" Good stuff. As far as one of those guys being "whistled at" - I doubt it. There were some guys there when we got there to help us load in the gear, as there always is, and if one of them got their precious little feelings hurt because he got asked if he was going to help, well...
You're right though. We are assholes. We treat each other like shit on a daily basis. Not a day goes by that I don't call one of these guys a fucker for some shit they did. And we don't have the "cred" to be jerks every now and then? What the hell does that even mean? Because we choose to slug it out at the level we're at, 200+ days a year, we don't have "cred"? So it's okay if Eddie Vedder treats you like a dog (not that he would) but if we do it, we're out of line? Whatever.
I guess the bottom line for me, what makes me so upset about this letter you wrote, is the fact that you just went straight to the public with it. You didn't even have the stones to come to me first and say "Hey Eddie, why did you treat me and my buddies like crap?" I think we could've worked it out, dude. I really do. I'm a firm believer in keeping good relationships healthy and your back stabbing ways just rub me wrong. I hope the next time someone does you "wrong", you have the balls to say something to them before going public with your dirty laundry.
Howdy there folks. I'm coming to you from the good ol' South. That's right, this tour is just underway and it's all starting down in the beautiful southern state of South Carolina. The SC is by far my favorite southern state and that is largely due to the city we were just in, the wonderful Charleston which is a great little town even if we didn't get to see very much of it this time around. Still, the people are friendly and the restaurants are good and they have our favorite minor league baseball team, the Charleston Riverdogs, who, unfortunately were out of town when we were there so we didn't get to attend a game either. Such is our luck, I guess. Being so dang busy has it's rewards but it also has it's downside too. You don't often get to stop and "smell the flowers" as it were when you've got to get up and go to the next town. Right now as I'm writing this we're currently heading from Charleston to Charlottesville, VA which is about a nine hour haul, so we were up and at 'em much earlier than any self respecting rock guy ought to be. It's worth it though to be getting to do this job. To be anointed with the carrying of the torch of rock and roll is a high honor. One that we're more than happy to undertake. After all, who's left out there to do it? No one that I can think of even comes close to what we are able to bring to the table each and every night, no matter how roadworn and weary we may be feeling.
Coming up on this trip that has already included a festival in Austin, Texas and a benefit for the Surf Rider Foundation in Myrtle Beach, SC is our quick jump over the pond to do a festival gig in England where we will be sharing the stage with none other than the incredible American rock legends, X (one of my favorite bands of all time). Immediately upon our jet-lagged return to the states we will be in NYC to do the Joey Ramone Birthday Celebration at the illustrious Irving Plaza before getting back in the big white Econoline and doing some more east coast dates. This tour will end with a show in Chicago after which I will be flying my butt down to Atlanta to do a solo show at a joint called the Gravity Pub, I think. The next day finds me flying back home to Seattle only to scoop up the (increasingly pregnant) wife and kid to head back over the "pond" to do a string of solo dates in Europe from which we will be flying back into LA in time for the Hootenanny Festival in beautiful Southern California, so my ass is going to be busy all the way into the summer and probably into the fall.
It's one of those good problems, I guess.
We'll see you out there this year for sure!
Rawkously yours,
-Eddie Spaghetti, somewhere on the I-95 in the Carolinas, 5/12/09
Supersuckers & Eddie Spaghetti Tour Dates April 30, 2009
Just a quick blast here to tell you about some upcoming solo shows that I have planned. I know, I just got back from Europe and already I'm back at work - there's just no rest for the wicked is there? Well, with the new little one on the way, I gotta get in all the work I can, while I can. Dig? Also check out the upcoming Supersuckers dates - we got a slew of them coming up as well so keep an eye out for some action near you and we'll see you out there on the road. Can't wait to rock your ass!
Greetings my fellow people of impeccable taste. This is coming to you straight out of England where we are about to rock the Newcastle-tonians. Newcastle-ites? I dunno, whatever they're called, they're gonna get rocked. Hard. This tour has been a super good time and we're looking forward to hitting Ireland in a couple of days. (In fact, by the time you read this we may just be there.)
Hey, do any of you have one of these new-fangled X-Box thingies? Well, we just got one on the bus here and I gotta tell you - it's no wonder I don't have one of these things at my house. They are addictive! And they look so realistic, it's like you're watching TV. We've just been playing one game, the Tiger Woods golf game and it is so much fun, I can't believe it. It makes getting things done kind of difficult because it is so darn addictive. But I'm taking time away from the links to write you all a little message about what we've got coming up.
Starting in May, we'll be back on the road in the good ol' U.S. of A.! That's right, if you're lucky enough to be living on the east coast, chances are we're gonna be somewhere near you. So keep your eyes peeled for a listing in your area. Also in May we'll be heading back to the UK to do a festival called All Tomorrow's Parties. Which this year is being "curated" by the Breeders and I guess they wanted a taste of The Greatest there. Then we're back in the states to finish up a round of east coast dates at the end of which, I'll be jetting down to Atlanta to do a solo gig there, and then I'll be home for about a day before I pack up the family and we take my solo act back over the pond to Europe. You can see the dates below, I reckon, but it's going to be a lot of fun, traveling with the family all around Europe and we at the Spaghetti household are all looking forward to it.
After that it's straight into Southern California for this year's Hootenanny Festival and then a string of west coast dates, so as you can see, my calendar is pretty much filled throughout the summer. And that's a good thing, because with the baby coming in September (which we now know is going to be a girl, by the way. Yay for us!) I'm gonna need to get all the work in I can before I take the month off for retraining of Daddy-ness. I may be a little bit rusty when it comes to having a newborn in the house again, but I'm really looking forward to it. She's gonna be a treat!
Well, that's all I have for now. Try to keep a loose eye on our website for details regarding upcoming shows near you. I've gotta go get up in some bangers and mash now. Yummy stuff for sure!

April 14, 2009 Rontrose Here from the Supersuckers
Hey there. Rontrose here from the Supersuckers. I am enjoying a day off here in Bilbao in the north of Spain and wanted to let everyone know that we are thinking of you all back in the states. We are looking forward to bringing you some rock later this year and into the next so hang in there. As much as I love it over here, there is no place like home!
I do have a little news for ya'll in regards to this tour. The last 3 shows will be with our friends in The Paceshifters. They are a young dutch band that I have had the pleasure to get to know over the last couple years. They will be joining us and Nashville Pussy for the last 2 U.K. dates and then we will be doing our own show together at the fabulous Vera club in Groningen on the 26th of April. If you are around do not miss these shows. The Paceshifters are fantastic and have a very rocking future to look forward to. We will also be releasing a split EP with them which will be available at these shows and features the track "Do Whatever It Takes" that I had the honor of laying down some guitar for while on vacation in Holland last fall. I plan on joining them on stage to do the song with them live. So make sure you all get there early so you can be part of the magic. See you there
Hey there peoples of impeccable taste! Or should I say "Hola!" How's it going? We're doing a little bit of alright on this tour. So far, every single night has been sold out or at least darn close to it. I'm writing you from Madrid right now where it is looking to be another gang-busters night on the road for sure, so yay for us! We've been real surprised by the response to the new songs we've been playing live - they've gone over real well and it seems like people are starting to know the words and get the drift of what we're up to on our new record. The guys in the band have been a joy to be around, Ron, Scott and Dan have been pulling their weight and rocking out extra hard on this run. Must be the weather! We've finally had a couple of nice days to go and see some of these towns we're in, so that's been a plus. Madrid today was absolutely fantastic, weather-wise. It seems we're finally out of the cold, at least until we hit the U.K. in a week or so.
So, if you're in Europe, make sure you keep an eye out for this tour to be coming your way. It's a super great bill, with us and Nashville Pussy rocking the house each and every night. And if you're in the States, keep an eye out for us to be coming your way this summer. I know we have some special dates coming up for those of you Stateside, so keep your peepers peeled.
Well, I guess that's all. I just wanted to check in with you all and put the bug in your discerning earholes that the Greatest Rock-N-Roll Band In The World is still out there, somewhere, rocking the asses that choose to get rocked. So make sure and bring yours out to see us next time we're close to you. You won't regret it...
As I sit here on my plane to Europe, fighting the urge to bitch and moan about every little thing I hate about flying, I'm struck by a thought. Or is it more of a feeling? (Or more THAN a feeling?) 70's rock references aside, I'm struck by the fact that I'm a pretty lucky guy. That's right, even though I'm sitting in coach on a lame-ass United Airlines flight, (I hate United - I hate the way they treat you as a customer, I hate their old-as-dirt airplanes, the food, ugh... It really goes on and on. I can't wait to arrive in Amsterdam to see which of my bags didn't make it) I still feel lucky. Lucky to have this job that enables me to have the opportunity to gripe about such things. These are "good problems" for sure! I'm lucky that I got to do a week of morning DJing at a major radio station in Seattle last week - that was a lot of fun. I just got up real early (how's 4:45 grab ya?) and went in and shot the bull for three hours and then went home. It was really cool and pretty easy and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the folks out there who tuned in and the few of you who took the time to call in as well. It was nice to hear from you so early in the morning. usually I don't see the business end of 5 a.m. unless I've been up all night, so it was a bit strange to be chatting it up that early in the morning! And finally, I'm lucky to have such a wonderful family at home - an awesome 8 year old boy and a beautiful wife who's currently expecting our second child - who are both so supportive of this crazy, nutty lifestyle that is the world of the indie-rocker. I gotta say "thanks" to them, they're the best!
Alright, I'm off. I'm going to watch a movie or something on this flight. Hopefully not something too terrible, although it's pretty hard to really judge a movie on a plane. Something about being trapped makes just about any movie seem at least okay.
And then we land in Amsterdam to kick off another month in Europe (oh, which, by the way, I will be returning to in order to do some solo dates over there starting June 12th and going through July 1st, so keep an eye out on our website for further details regarding that epic event!) So wish us luck and we'll see ya out there!
We here at Supersuckers Industries are pleased to announce the network broadcasting debut of none other than our very own Mr. Eddie Spaghetti! That's right, the afore mentioned lead singer of the Greatest Rock-N-Roll Band In The World will be making his presence known in the world of radio as he takes to the airwaves starting this Monday from 6 to 9 a.m. (PST) on Seattle's own, 107.7, The End.
You will be able to hear him struggle his way through the morning shift all week long as he will be taking a stab at being a "real morning jock", starting Monday, March 16th and running through to Friday the 20th. So make sure and set your alarm to wake up at the crack of dawn to hear what may just turn out to be commercial suicide for this Seattle radio station and the public shaming of one of your favorite artists.
Whew, we did it. We just finished 5 straight weeks in Europe and man is it good to be back in the ol' U S of A! Not that this tour was anything but fun, because it certainly was, it's just always great to be home again. We finished off the Nashville Pussy leg of the tour in Berlin and man, what a great night that was. Totally sold out, totally off the hook crowd, totally killer way to end the tour.
Except we didn't end the tour there.
Nashville Pussy did and maybe they knew something we didn't? Because after that, it was off to Prague and as much as Berlin made us feel like we were somebody, Prague knocked us right back down to earth. The place we played was a complete dump and it wasn't really even in town - (I had to take a train into Prague itself, because to be that close to one of the most amazing cities in all of Europe and not go see some of it would be a crime against anyone who calls themselves a traveller) - and we played to a grand total of about 23 people (and that includes our soundman and our merch guy!), so needless to say there was a whiff of disappointment in the air. But still, we didn't take it out on the people who DID show up, no sir, that's just not how we roll. We totally rocked all 23 of those people who did bother to show up on a cold, snowy night to the Czech Republic's answer to the Bates Motel. (That place was most certainly haunted!) After another couple of lackluster attendances, (in Vienna, which wasn't SO bad, I guess) and Bratislava (which was even worse than Prague, with about 13 or 14 in the crowd for that one! I know... how do we pull 'em in like that?) we were then treated to two of the best shows of the WHOLE tour. Belgrade, Serbia is one rockin' town. I mean it - they really like the rock AND the roll over there (and the promoter, Alex, knows how to treat a band as well. Thanks for everything Alex, you made us feel really special!) and they turn out to see it. Ditto for Zagreb, Croatia, which was WAY off the chain! Totally sold out, really enthusiastic crowd and a great way to end the trip. We finished the tour on a Wednesday night in Zagreb, but it felt like a Saturday night in San Francisco. It was that kind of awesome!
And speaking of things that are awesome, we've got some awesome news to share with you from the Spaghetti household. We here at the Spaghetti manor are proud to announce that we are expecting our second child! That's right, I went and knocked up the lovely Mrs. Jessika and she is expecting sometime in early September. So we don't know the sex of the baby yet, but we find out in April and we'll keep you posted (although Jessie thinks it's a girl). We just wanted to share our joy with you, the good People of Impeccable Taste. And I hope you don't mind the diversion from the "rock talk".
But back to the Rock Talk... Now we gear up for our appearance in Toronto for the Toronto Film Festival coming up on March 13th at Lee's Palace. It promises to be another epic performance by The Greatest Rock-n-Roll Band In The World and we hope to see all our Canadian friends there. Then it's back to Europe with us for another go round with the fine folks in Nashville Pussy, who are just a joy to tour with - funny, fun loving, music-minded people who love having a good time. What more could you ask for?
Well, I gotta go take care of the pregnant girl in the house. There are some feet that need to be rubbed, I'm sure. Until next time, take it easy, or take it hard, it's your call, I suppose, just so long as you take it like a man (or woman). I have no idea what that even means and what's really important here is that I end this note. And that is what I'm going to do...
See ya when I see ya,
Rontrose here on the final week of the Euro throw-down with Nashville Pussy. By the time you read this they will be home in bed and we will be off to play some of our own shows a little east of here (by east I mean Serbia, Slovakia... all very glamours places). It has been a great trip and am grateful every day to have this experience.
Now here is some news I just gots to tell you about. In the digital download section of our web site we have just posted the earliest known recordings of the Black Supersuckers (there is one other recording that I can't seem to find but they are not as good as these). Here is a little about the recordings. The first two tracks "Dance On It/Dirt" were done in early 1989 in Tucson. Note the heavy reverb and dated sound of the recording (ahh the warmth of early digital technology...insert sarcasm here). Still it is a nice time capsule and worth checking out if you are a dedicated fan. The songs that follow are all demo recordings that were done in the matter of one or two days at the famed Reciprocal Recorders in Seattle (think Nirvana's first album, Mudhoneys first album, our first album...you get the idea). All the tracks feature our original singer Eric Martin on vocals. Most of these have not been heard before with the exception of "Monkey" and "Wake Me When It's Over" which appeared on the Sup Pop best of "How The Supersuckers Became The Greatest Rock And Roll Band In The World". If you wold like to hear the band in its infancy and some versions of what would become classics like "4-Stroke" and "Mudhead" along with the original version of "Blow You Away" which would surface on "Must've Been High" as a country song and the earliest recording of "Girl I Know" then I urge you to get to downloading the full record here. It is as raw and unabashed as it gets and a rare peek at our band finding its sound. I know you will all dig it. Enjoy and thanks again for being awesome!!
So as I'm sitting here on this long-ass ferry ride from Sweden to Finland (12 hours, to be specific), watching some crazy-ass, drunken Swede or Fin (not sure, the accents all sound pretty much the same to me), going slightly crazy, wearing a monkey mask and doing a sloppy dance while telling everyone what's what, what is and what's happening in his native tongue, I can't help but sit back and smile and think how lucky I am to have this job. Lucky that this little ol' rock band, from the east side of Tucson has taken me to places I never would have been to otherwise. I mean, this tour is absolutely fantastic - lots of sold out shows and good pre-sale numbers pretty much across the board. Being on tour with another high-caliber, class act like the increasingly awesome Nashville Pussy is yet another bonus and a big reason why this tour is so much fun. Blaine Cartwright, singer for Nashville Pussy, is a crazy, Kentucky-born walking cartoon and to hear him tell a story is always a treat (no matter how long they may be!) and his band has never sounded better.
And speaking of never sounding better, The Supersuckers are definitely in that category. We are firing on all cylinders here lately, delivering a little taste of everything we're capable of doing in these shows. That's right, we've finally brought the country show to Europe and, for the most part, people be eating that stuff up. They've been asking for a long, long time about it and they're more than pleased to hear a little Americana Action. Delivered from the real deal, Holyfield, The Supersuckers!
So while some of us are busy whining about record sales and complaining about the economy, rest assured that we here in The Supersuckers have never felt better to have the kind of job we have - traveling the world and rocking asses everywhere we go. It's a real treat to get to do what you want for a living and very few people in this world get to have that pleasure in their lives.
I just wanted you all to know that we are very grateful that this is our lot in life and I want to thank you all for making it possible, because without you, the Greatest Fans in the World, none of this would be even a remote possibility.
Now... I've got a bus to catch up with and another town to rock, so I must leave you. Thanks for coming to the shows and we'll see you this year for sure!
February 13, 2009 Get It Together Sales, Digital Downloads and more...
So here we are about 3 months after the release of Get It Together and I'm scratching my head. Why hasn't this album sold more?
All of the album sales can be found on the front page of the site so it's no secret that the total sales for Get It Together is shy of 7000. While Must've Been Live is close to 20,000 and MFBT is about 25,000. Neither of these records got the radio attention that Get It Together received with spins from Myrtle Beach, SC to Seattle, WA. We had countless reviews from Spin to Alternative Press. We haven't gotten a review in Rolling Stone but it's not too late. You can email them here and request that they review it.
We included a DVD of the entire show inside the packaging of Get It Together. And we shipped over 10,000 into stores. We still have thousands left in stores waiting to be taken home and heard. If anyone has any ideas or can help with the sales of this record please let me know. I'm sure everyone reading this agrees that the Supersuckers deserve a lot more than 7000 copies sold...
I want to thank all the people that sent in suggestions for Digital Downloads. And you can buy the Must've Been High Demo's now along with any of the older Fan Club CD's and a few shows that we recently added... Great Suggestions everyone!!! Keep them coming.
I know all the PIT Members are eager to learn when they might be receiving their copy of the 20th Anniversary show and I hope to have some news on that shortly.
Thanks for your time and please help us get the word out on Get It Together and get some more copies out of the stores for the Supersuckers.
January 19, 2009 Eddie Spaghetti goes back to work after losing millions in the Madoff Ponzi Scheme...
Along with other celebrities including Kevin Bacon, Kyra Sedgwick, Steven Spielberg, and Jeffrey Katzenberg, Spaghetti fell victim to Ponzi-schemer Bernard Madoff.
On the advice of his international team of lawyers, Spaghetti hasn't commented on the exact extent of his loss, but sources claim it could be upwards of $75 million.
Spaghetti, best known as the lead singer and frontman of the Supersuckers, is not asking anyone to feel sorry for him, though he has mentioned that there's a sale at the Supersuckers online store. A return to his lucrative writing career, as well as another solo release are on the horizon this year as part of his financial restructuring.
In the meantime, he will no doubt have to tour immediately with his fellow band mates in the Supersuckers, performing a lengthy tour of Europe. He's personally requesting that all fans attend these shows, and buy their tickets in advance.
In addition, he'll be performing a show with Jordan Shapiro on Sat - Jan. 24 at the Tavern on Main. Sources have not yet confirmed if Shapiro was also a Madoff victim, but as one source bluntly states,
"Why would Shapiro feel it necessary to perform with Spaghetti if he didn't need the money?"
